I've been taking a stronger estrogen once a day for about 2 weeks now and I've been feeling really fatigued and out of it. I feel like I've lost a lot of energy and stamina and I've also noticed a loss of appetite. I also feel some periodic aching in my stomach and intestines. Has anyone else experienced this?

Some of the biggest risks of estrogen are liver damage or blood clots which are serious. These need to be monitored periodically by blood tests for liver enzymes (LFTs) and clotting factors.

It can also cause nausea. Are you taking it orally? Perhaps suggest a different method to your doctor (?sublingual, ?transdermal). I found this wad a good article on the side effects and what to expect

These have only been observed with high dose Premarin and birth control pills that contain ethinyl estradiol. Please do try and differentiate between those estrogens and bio-identical estradiol, especially if taken non-orally. I take a high dose of bio-identical estradiol intramuscularly and have had absolutely no complications. Liver enzymes are normal as are clotting factors despite levels above 1,000 pg/ml.

What estrogen are you taking? Ethinyl estradiol and premarin should be avoided.

I am not a medical doctor, nor a scientist - opinions expressed by me on the subject of HRT are merely based on my own review of some of the scientific literature over the last decade or so, on anecdotal evidence from women in various discussion forums that I have come across, and my personal experience

I recommend calling your physician.  I am no medical profession and I do not think many of us are qualified to answer your question safely; however, I am taking Estradiol, and my paperwork gives me a list of things I should call my doctor about (when Estradiol was prescribed to me):

"... Signs of liver problems like dark urine, feeling tired, not hungry, upset stomach or stomach pain, light-colored stools, throwing up, or yellow skin or eyes.  Chest pain or pressure.  Shortness of breath.  Coughing up blood.  Swelling, warmth, numbness, change of color, or pain in a leg or arm.  Very bad headache.  Very bad dizziness or passing out.  Change in strength on 1 side is great than the other, trouble speaking or thinking, change in balance, or blurred eyesight.  Very upset stomach or throwing up.  Very bad belly pain.  Back pain.  Bulging eyes.  Change in how contact lenses feel in the eyes.  Change in eyesight..."

I listed the other things in case you may be noticing other symptoms.  Even if these are the only things you are noticing... I still recommend calling your physician.  It's better to be safe than sorry, and the worst that can happen is that they say it is no big deal and you are well off -- that's a pretty good deal for you ;)

Aside from Estradiol, if you were to say this was Spiro, then I would say these are more normal symptoms; however, you were pointing out specifically to the change in estrogen, so I am thinking you should call your physician for medical advice.

Good luck, and get well!
