I picked a copy of the Washington Blade today at my therapists' office and I saw where the House is dropping the Transgender wording from the ENDA bill. Once I got home I logged onto their web site and there I saw where the only transgender member (Donna Rose)of the Human Rights Campaign board of directors, announced today that she is resigning in protest of the organization's position on the Employment Non-Discrimination Act.  I hate to see her resign from the HRC 'cuz that now leaves us with no voice on the HRC but I sure can understand her resignation.

It is looking more and more like we as a community can not depend on the HRC or the LGBT to ensure that our rights to employment are protected like everyone else's are protected here in America.  So I feel that everyone of us here at Susan's needs to begin sending e-mails to our elected officials, Senators & Representatives,  and get them to change the ENDA bill back to include the Transgender community.

She was only the token ->-bleeped-<- on the board.  HRC and Barney Frank were never behind us in the first place.

I don't get Donna. If you go to the HRC site, they're calling for a "Full-Scale Nationwide Call to Action in Support of Inclusive ENDA" to keep the T included.

How has the HRC abandoned anyone?

For a number of days after the proposed deletion of gender identity from ENDA, HRC didn't respond at all, so it appeared as though they were going to back Barney Frank's bill.

They are still willing to do that.  They have not signed on to the UnitedENDA campaign that over 150 GLBT organizations have joined.  They are currently giving lip service to trans-inclusion but are not willing to put any risk behind it.

They are officially taking a "neutral" stand on removing trans from ENDA.  See Donna Rose's letter of resignation from the HRC board: http://www.donnarose.com/Community.htm

Here's what I find about compromise--
don't do it if it hurts inside,
'cause either way you're screwed,
eventually you'll find
you may as well feel good;
you may as well have some pride

Just remember this whenever dealing with the big politics:

HRC, Barney Frank, and Ted Kennedy will screw us over every chance they get and in between doing so will speak nice words to us. Time to get term limits passed and get the dinosaurs out of our Congress.
