Hey everyone! Im 22 years old and have always secretly had gender issues. I was born a male, but mentally am a female. I have a question for those of you experienced in this. I am a bodybuilder and currently going through the hiring process for my city's fire department. I'm not Mr. Olympia huge, but I am 5'7 160lbs of lean muscle, primarily no fat, or extracellular water. I have not begun the HRT to transition into a woman, because I can't afford it right now. My question is though with my physical characteristics, will HRT really make me physically into a woman, aside from my genital and breasts? Thank you.

Welcome to Susan's Place. Results with HRT vary from person to person. HRT will not change your bones but will alter muscle and fat. Losing muscle will feminize you but you need to understand that not all women have a delicate bone structure. Some women have a stock build. You are at a good place to start as you are not overly tall and you don't have weight to lose. HRT may cause breast development and some of the girls have developed to the point of needing a D cup bra. Clothes selection, makeup, hair and in some cases, facial surgery will help finish the process. There are many steps involved in the transition and we will help you through them. Feel free to ask any questions you have and we will do our best to help you.

Hi AuroraCorvinus, welcome to Susan's. HRT can do many things including help with where fat deposits go and round us out along with grow breast. However, they can not change bone structure. Surgery can help with that. Your muscles may go down, but that are affected by the type of exercise we do. I look forward to seeing you around the forums. Good luck and Hugs

Welcome to Susan's.

I go to a LGBT gym and there are woman there that are lean to muscular depending on their level of exercise, nutrition and genetics . They do not compare in muscle to a guy with the same amount of training. I have seen woman doing cross fit and battle ropes and can put most guys to shame.

It takes a few years for the muscle to atrophy with HRT. And more muscle means a faster metabolism, so it takes a few years to build female fat deposits. I was very muscular when I started, and a I lost a lot of weight to try to get rid f it, but the initial result was that even though my measurements were smaller, I still looked very muscular and defined, and my deltoids were still big and my back had the V-taper; it took 5 years for these issues to resolve. Best wishes :)

I'm certain that you would be fine. I'm currently 5' 11 and 188, I have a very active workout regime. Adding in extra stretching into your fitness routine would help with bulk. However, it'll depend on your view of the body you wish to obtain...
At what point did my life go Looney Tunes? How did it happen? Who's to blame?... Batman, that's who. Batman! It's always been Batman! Ruining my life, spoiling my fun! >:-)
