my best friend is currently living in fredericksburg and she's in need for help.
She's MTF trans but as of yet has found herself unable to come out due to the fact she lives in a toxic environment. Basically, we're talking about a highly conservative family that is likely to be violent if they found out, or at the least kick her out. Additionally, it's an abusive environment where she's denied medical care, was denied learning to drive, is denied from having a bank account or a cellphone, and where she's forced to work but never actually is allowed to keep her money, thus finding herself unable to move out as much as she may want to.
Personally, my first instinct is to send her a plane ticket and having her come live with me (I'm in the west coast), but I don't have enough resources and am barely making rent as it is. So seeing how there's so much support here I was wondering if there is anyone in Fredericksburg, VA who could tell me where we can find some sort of support group or shelter where not only can she actually be herself instead of terrified of coming out, but also where she can seek therapy and have some form of shelter given the extreme likelihood of being left homeless or being attacked. Legal counsel would also be wonderful given it's likely her parents have her financial info and have taken mortgages under her name and are likely to attempt something to retaliate if she leaves. Again, keep in mind that she lacks the ability to transport herself and is monitored, so some flexibility when it comes to accessibility is welcome.
She's a hard worker and is capable of great things, and is also the sort of person who's not afraid to work to keep herself afloat, so it's really should just temporary help so she can get her own bank account and her own paychecks and build up enough money and security to rise on her own.
I'm terrified of the situation getting worse and at any moment now I fear that her family will find out and I won't hear from her again. I've thankfully never had to ask help for myself with my transition, but given how she's my best friend and without her I'd be down in a pit of depression, here I am asking for help now, for myself, and for her as well.
Really hoping I can hear back from someone, so I can relay the option to her and we can work on a way to get her out.
