So this is probably a really dopey question, but it's been weighing on my mind since a friend brought it up. I always planned to get top surgery prior to going on T. When I told my friend this, she stated I would just gain my chest tissue back if I gained weight or got pregnant (I don't plan to get pregnant, but I'm including that out of curiosity). Is this even a possibility? She likes to talk out of her a** to burst any bubbles I have, so I wanted to ask people who actually have knowledge on the topic.

Also, is it worse to get top surgery without being on T? Would the chest look less defined or have a better chance at looking "off" without being on testosterone first?

I am two years post op with no T. The most I would say I have is a little pec looking which could be fat. It does not look female at all. You will not get the mammary tissue back. If you gain weight it would be fat tissue which you could loose once you loose weight.

Guys tend to workout pre surgery so the surgeon can see where to cut better but a good surgeon should not have any issues knowing where to cut pre T or not.

Some people do T first because it redistributes the fat that isn't mammary fat in the breasts so they can turn into flat pancakes (if you look at some before pictures) which makes it easier to bind.

I say if you have the money now then get the surgery. When I got surgery I was not sure if I was going to go on T. Two years later I am now thinking about it but I would not postpone something for a what if scenario.

This question doesn't seem very easy to answer.
There are plenty of guys who are not on T and did have the surgery. As far as I know, they don't have any issues. At least, not on the short term. Perhaps issues would develop on the long term? But then there are cis guys who develop breast tissue due to an excess of estrogene (which a transguy not on T also would have). So how this works, I am not sure. If you wish to know, ask a doctor or endocrinologist.

Also, what I've read is that some surgeons prefer people to have been on T for a little while as pecs develop some, which helps them sculpt the chest more. Again, this could just be rumours and the person to ask would be your own surgeon as even preferences between surgeons could be different.

What Alex posted is great anecdotal evidence, and jives with what I have heard. I have personally never heard of anyone gaining back anything that looked like breasts. Muscle in that area, yes. A bit of fat that is loseable with diet/exercise, yes. But nothing that would be confused for female breast tissue.

I think at this point, most surgeons don't have a preference. I know my surgeon would've performed the procedure whether I was on T or not, I just personally needed to be on T ASAP. The only aesthetic difference would potentially be musculature, but even someone not on T can build pectoral muscles.

Thank you guys, that eased my mind a bit. It seemed a little far fetched, but I wanted to ask so that I could really think on how I wanted to go about my transition. :-) I'm still saving up at the moment, but I'll definitely see about scheduling the appointment for next year if they let me do it like that.

I felt like a dope for asking, but I figured I might as well ask in case anyone else might have thought along the same lines.

Thanks again!!
