History question: History of HRT?

help. i'm a history buff and interested in transgender history.  i have been searching the internet and susans and can't find the info i'm looking for.
i.e. how has hrt evolved/changed over time to what we now have?  when were blockers first used?
what was the dosages of estrogen given back in the day? 60s and 70s.   i know candy darling died of lymphoma at 29 and i have heard it was directly related to the high dosage of estrogen she was prescribed back then. 

any information or pointing me in the right direction is appreciated.

Of course research into testosterone preceded estrogen research, that may be of interest to you for background.

The notorious John R Brinkley and his "goat gland" treatments may be of interest.

I believe it was only really standardized when Harry Benjamin began treating patients in the 60s.

Prior to that there was a lot of self medding and nothing was really standardized.

thanks everbody for the help.  i tried a google search for: transgender hrt history and all i got was pages of peoples personal medical histories documenting their own experiences with hrt.  so much of transgender history is still to be written i suppose.
