"A Georgia state senator has introduced a bill based on the First Amendment Defense Act, pending at the federal level, that would allow businesses and individuals, including government employees, to discriminate against same-sex couples and LGBT people generally in the name of religion."

Hmm. The way this one is worded it doesn't actually affect us. Still, we can't let it go, no matter how tiresome this is getting. All of these local bills is like being nibbled by ducks!

That means they also have to start discriminating against all Christians who have been divorced and remarried and all Christians who have had sex before marriage.

Oh, that's right, I forgot.  Hypocrisy ranks near the top of the list of Christian virtues.   In this case it's hypocrisy for the purpose of masking simple bigotry and cloaking it in the mantle of righteousness.

All of these local bills is like being nibbled by ducks!

These bills are seen as a risk free way for politicians to pander for votes from evangelicals, so I expect to keep seeing more and more of them.

The way to stop these laws is to hit people in the wallet - that means a loss of tax revenue and federal funding. This might include federal funds getting cut off to states and schools for non-compliance, businesses relocating and conventions being cancelled resulting in lost tax revenue and local sales, or companies having to pay the costs of stiff lawsuits resulting in pressure on politicians to repeal the laws.

Bigotry should have a price tag.

Having some Buck Angel types entering the women's room won't hurt either.

It's stuff like this that makes me keep losing faith in our legal system. I'm at the point where I think there should be an amendment to have everyone from every Congress in the united States should be fired and replaced.

It shouldn't.  The system is set up so that people can introduce laws. I don't agree with a lot of things that people put forward, but I wholeheartedly support their right to do so.

This one is so bad, it would allow state employees to use slurs to create a hostile work environment for LGBT coworkers without fear of repercussions.  Just as an FYI, Greg Kirk, the moron who introduced this bill, is a former Southern Baptist minister and this is his way of pitching a fit because of the Supreme Court's same sex marriage ruling.

It will be interesting to watch how this bill fares here.  I expect that a lot of people in the state would support it.  I'm not sure though how the businesses in Atlanta will support it with its potential economic impact.

As far as business, Delta Air Lines, Home Depot and UPS (three Atlanta biggies) have teamed up with Sun Trust, ATT and some other businesses to help fight some of these bills and urge other companies to include LGBT protection in their corporate statements.  I don't know if Coca-Cola has joined in yet, or even if they will, but if they did, that would make four of the largest employers in Georgia teamed up.

Addendum:  Coca-Cola is a member of Georgia Prospers as is Google.
