For the ladies you who had their SRS in the USA. Were you able to use FMLA (short term medical disability) to cover the time spent out of work when recovering from surgery?

I recently had FFS but because I was told that it was a cosmetic procedure, I had to use 3 weeks of my vacation time. I'm hoping not to have to do this for SRS.

Hair Removal - 10/1/14
HRT - 3/18/15
Full Time - 7/1/15
Name Change: 8/4/15
FFS - 1/14/16

I could have, and I had to file the paperwork just in case, but in the end I was able to use vacation time and sick time for all of it. (I preferred that, since FMLA is unpaid.) It is my understanding that some companies *do* require people to use up their PTO before getting into FMLA, too; that seems to be legal.

I received paid FMLA for FFS, Orchi, BA and have approval for GCS.

We get up to 12 weeks per rolling calendar year of paid FMLA.

To move forward is to leave behind that which has become dear. It is a call into the wild, into becoming someone currently unknown to us. For most, it is a call too frightening and too challenging to heed. For some, it is a call to be more than we were capable of being, both now and in the future.

ive been able to get covered 4 week of salary for my FFS.   My nose has a minor deviation so the rhinoplasty isnt considered purely cosmetic to them.  This is the only way i found to get it covered.

SRS is not considered as a cosmetic procedure
