double standards, ignorant assumptions

as an mtf, I have found myself drawn to friendships with women, but sometimes, not always, seeking those female friends appearing to the world as male, some women will back off.
It's as if some people assume just because a person has a penis, they are on a constant quest to stick it in something.

I just want to be friends.
I'm having 'it' tucked away, I don't want to stick it in anything.

Hey Hon,
Slow down. If you are presenting as male most women will see you as a guy and be a bit cautious.

Ahh a little secret, once you present as female, men appear to be a little bit intimidating at times!

Yeah, this has been the most consistent dysphoria I've had over the years.  Early in life, all my friends were female.  As we matured sexually, I found it harder and harder to be friends with women, and harder and harder not to objectify them.  I was sad about the difficulty in making friends, and extremely uncomfortable with the objectification.  Thanks to HRT, the reflexive objectification is almost entirely gone, and women find me less threatening now!

I'm with  you Amy. This is the main reason I knew I had to transition (as opposed to just wanted to). It was next to impossible to make the sort of friendships I wanted as a married male. It's also the reason why I insist upon being able to pass pretty well.
