I am reading a book about willpower, ego depletion is when we use our will power that is in limited supply, leads to low will power then failure. All uses of our will power is from the same reserves. This will lead to drinking, drugs, binge, spending reckless if not in control.

We as transgender women deplete our will powers daily... By controlling our basic impulses of ourselves. Every time you deny a feminine or true to self expression, you use self control. Everytime you pretend to be someone your not, self control.

Do you feel you go through ego depletion often, such as because you restrict yourself so much you are weak in other areas of your life? Which then leads to more problems, and is a never ending cycle of turmoil? You cannot control your urges... Gain weight, can't focus, irritable.

And those who are living your authentic lives, do you feel much more in control now than before?

My best friend once told me that a lack of motivation is generally caused by an incongruity between morals and actions. In my life, I have a terrible time fulfilling daily actions. It's all I can do to bring myself to accomplish basic tasks and keep myself going. I don't chalk this up to depression, as this happens whether I'm having a depressive phase or not. I attribute it to the aforementioned incongruity between the facade that I'm putting up and my true wants and desires that I keep bottled up for the time being in order to keep myself some level of functioning.

So yes, I completely agree with your book. I often marvel at the things I've been able to accomplish on a low-functioning level and can't wait to see the things I can achieve when I have my full willpower and motivation at hand :)

I think that's actually true... interesting.

I've had so much more motivation and determination to advance my career, exercise, etc. since I was able to stop spending tons of energy suppressing who I was. (I never would have imagined myself as a manager, and now I'm up for a senior managerial position!)

Interesting. On most days, if its not essential to my job... It goes to hell. Weekends my room is a disaster. My clothes remain unwash. I sometimes have no desire besides simple Earthly desires.
