Approximate Cost of HRT?

Hi everyone! I've just scheduled an appointment with an endo to start HRT. I'm just curious about how much I can expect to pay? I've got very good insurance that I know covers HRT, so I'm really just wondering how much I will pay out of pocket? I know the hormones themselves aren't very expensive, but I've got to pay for blood tests and lab work and lots of other things, I'm sure. I understand that this will vary a lot, I'm just trying to get a rough estimate of how much it's going to cost me. I've got about $1k saved away and I'm hoping that this will cover most of it, as I'm not going to be getting any financial help from my parents on the matter. I live in the USA, more accurately in Iowa. To narrow it down even more, I'll be going to the UofI LGBT Center, if anybody has experience there. Thanks so much everybody!

It all depend on your insurance and most of the time it's printed on the insurance card. In my case, I am early in the deductible and the initial office visit cost $250 and a $60 lab visit. I need another office visit and then picking up the prescription. Really good insurance may only cost $20 or $30 for the office visit and the lab may be included in that.

I have Kaiser Northwest, and just paid $87 for a three month supply, yesterday.

Do they sell cheaper generic versions in the US?

The thing about HRT is that the cost is usually spread out over many months. Still that's no use if you can't afford them.

I heard that Walmart you can get them as low as $4. I hope is true.

Without insurance at Walmart, E was $10. Spiro about $50, and Progesterone about $80 per month.  The cost of one office visit & blood test without insurance is about $500,

My costs with insurance. (Cigna, Illinois)
E - $10/month
Spiro - $10/month
Doctors Office visit $25 About every 6 months. At an LGBT clinic (Howard Brown, Chicago)
Lab work $80 - 90 depending on what was checked. Currently getting blood draws every 3 months.

If you've got insurance and it covers HRT, I'd be very surprised if it didn't cover a big chunk of the other stuff as well.

My doctor visits cost $30 copay. Quarterly blood work with insurance is around $10, and all my hormones/needles are $75 because I pay out of pocket for a bigger vial.
