Lawmakers Vote Against LGBT Civil Rights Protections in Georgia

"An amendment to a bill that would have extended civil rights protections to LGBT Georgians was defeated in a House subcommittee Monday. That bill, which protects against discrimination on the basis of religion, race, color, and national origin, is still alive and being taken up today by the full House Judiciary Committee, reports The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "

This bill was before a subcommittee of the House Judiciary Committee.  Georgia General Assembly rules allow any member of a committee, in this case the Judiciary Committee, to vote even if they are not a member of the sub-committee.  So basically the Chairman of the Judiciary Committee stacked the sub-committee with two members and and the House Majority Whip to vote no.  The author of the amendment will try again in the full committee.
