Hello, lovely people! I am new here. I am a 18 yo FtM. I suffer from anxiety and panic attacks. Will this stop me from getting T? I am sorry if there is another thread about this on the forum. I have little to none experience with posting on forums, let alone searching. I hope all of will bare with me.  ;D

Welcome to Susan's place. You did just fine on your first post and if it's in the wrong place, they made moderators to move stuff around. I think a doctor would want to treat you for your panic disorder first because transitioning can be stressful and often we have to overcome a good deal of fear to move into our new life. In the long run I see no reason that you would be denied T because of a panic disorder.

We issue to all new members the following links so you will best be able to use the web site.

Hello and welcome  :)

usually people have experienced gender therapists.
You might talk to them.
Its well possible anxiety recedes when gender dysphoria goes back.
It means unhappiness with your state because of gender issues.

Welcome to Susan's.

There are a lot of people here who care and are supportive. I can't answer your question for sure. The guy's on here might be able to help. Although, you can't go wrong getting help from Dena.

I wish you love, acceptance and a smooth path.

With warmth,

Joanna

hiya, welcome!

i can't speak for every doc/therapist out there, but it didn't stop me at all. (social anxiety and general anxiety disorders both, panic disorder, ptsd, and an undiagnosed but formally recognised mood disorder—my psych and gp both knew about the list, my psych had no issue writing my letter, and my gp had no issue with writing me a script.)

Nope. As long as you can explain to the doctor prescribing your hormones (or referring you for hormones) that you're managing your mental health appropriately, you should be fine. You may also find that T helps improve your anxiety. It did for me, and many other guys.

It all depends on the severity, reasons, triggers etc, but I'm sure it should be fine. I have anxiety and panic attacks and it didn't make my psychologist second guess about writing my letter for T. He thinks if anything, T will help with my anxiety, as a lot of it is social anxiety due to being uncomfortable with myself/how other people see me. However, he also has two other patients my age whom he is refusing letters. I am quite sure this is for their severe depression though and nothing to do with anxiety. It should be fine. :)
