Yes, South Dakota's Anti-Transgender Bill Really Is That Bad

"South Dakota is one signature — or five days of inaction — away from setting a devastating new precedent for discrimination against transgender people. House Bill 1008 would make it illegal for schools to provide accommodations to transgender students that recognize their gender identities. It passed passed in the Senate on Tuesday by a 20-15 vote, having passed in the House last month 58-10, which means only a veto from Gov. Dennis Daugaard (R) can keep it from becoming law."

Why is this a surprise.  On their better days Republicans want to legislate us out of existence.  The rest of the time they just want us dead.

Love is not obedience, conformity, or submission. It is a counterfeit love that is contingent upon authority, punishment, or reward. True love is respect and admiration, compassion and kindness, freely given by a healthy, unafraid human being....  - Dan Barker

My parents were from SD, they would send me back there every summer to work on my relatives farms, think they were trying to make me more manly. It didn't work but at least I got to have different people pick on me during the summer.
Last time I was back there was 4 years ago for my oldest brothers funeral that trip convinced me to never go back again. Nice enough people but too much religion and "family values". Its nice place if your a white straight christian male but if your LGBT, Native American or other race not so much.
