How long before riding a bicycle post SRS?

I'll start with ymmv and I know that.  Does anyone have a feel for how long you should keep off a bike post SRS?

My surgery is in mid December and I need to start training about 3 months later for a tough ride in the summer.  I can hold off as much as 4 1/2 months but that makes training way harder.

Let the opinions roll...

It's a matter of when you think your bottom can take the pressure. I would suspect it would be 3 month before you should consider riding a bike. You will be healed enough so your not going to damage anything but it will be a question if you you will be comfortable riding. Possible the right seat will make a difference.

My surgeon said a minimum of 8 weeks but would prefer longer. I didn't want to get close to my bike for at least 3 months. When I did start doing short rides at the 3 month mark, I found that not much of a ride created quite a bit of swelling and had me off the bike for a few days.

Good luck with your surgery and think hard about priorities of healing well vs your summer ride

I think I took 3 to 3.5 months off from running... Be gentle with yourself!... Your body will tell you when it is within the realm of possibility!... Easy does it sister!!!!
"To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment" ... Ralph Waldo Emerson 🌸

"The individual has always had to struggle from being overwhelmed by the tribe... But, no price is too high for the privilege of owning yourself" ... Rudyard Kipling 🌸

Let go of the things that no longer serve you... Let go of the pretense of the false persona, it is not you... Let go of the armor that you have worn for a lifetime, to serve the expectations of others and, to protect the woman inside... She needs protection no longer.... She is tired of hiding and more courageous than you know... Let her prove that to you....Let her step out of the dark and feel the light upon her face.... amg🌸

I rode my motorcycle 28 days after surgery. I didn't go far, just wanted to see if I could do it. Sat on one butt cheek. Had no other option. I was a crazy 22 year old.

Went back to work full times at 6 weeks, rode 68 miles a day hitting most of the major malls. Not in one (ahem) sitting though. Was still dilating 4x per day. Had no other option. I was a hungry 22 year old.

Surgery 41 years ago this last June. Kitty be just fine!

Honestly, I've always found bicycle seats pretty uncomfortable.

22 days post op here, I have rode my Honda to the store without issue, but no way am I gonna ride my Diamondback lol not only is the seat tiny, but pedaling seems to like it would put even more pressure. I would be willing to ride a motorbike with forward controls long distances I think by this point, but neutral or rear pegs seems like it would put too much pressure on the area.

I was on my bicycle about 3 or 4 months post vaginoplasty. That was almost 3 years ago and I really cannot remember the exact date. It seems so long ago.

Denise, I did some limited riding at 3+ months and got in my first 25 mile ride with a friend at 4 months post-op. I'd considered being ready to do a 140 mile ride this last June, however my winter and spring were complicated and so I'm planning on doing that ride next year. Right now I'm on a steady diet of weekly 20 mile fast rides + commuting and find my labia are generally a bit sore after 20 in bike shorts or a day with 10 miles of commuting (wearing street clothes, normal panties).

Going by my experience, you will still be dealing with post-op healing out to maybe 6 months, if you really want to accelerate training while minimizing impact on still tender labia I'd think about borrowing a recumbent bike or picking up a related activity ... hiking lots of hills, stairmaster ...

It's nice to feel training effect again, by end of summer I expect to be leading up the hills again.

Here's a link to my biking thread where some other post-op cyclists weighed in :-)

Thank you all.  The 500 mile ride supports runaway kids.  A lot of them are LGBT who were thrown out. It means a lot to me to support them.  Discomfort is over thing, but damage down below is something different.   sounds like a lot of elliptical work is in my spring plan.

Thanks for all the advice.
