Hey all, I just want to throw my two cents in, so here goes:
I am trangender, but I am also a deeply spiritual, not religious, Christian.
(I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians.. Ghandi)
I live in southern USA and what I have generally seen is that the younger generation Is a lot more accepting of LGBT people and the world in general. The people who give me stares or judge me or act all antichrist christian are usually from a different time. Not saying it is okay by any means. Because as we all know they teach their children that hate, and some steer clear but not all. Places like Westboro Baptist make me sick to my tummy spreading all that hate in the name of God.
The best thing that we can do as a community is educate and tolerate. "Turn the other cheek" and "Ignorance breeds hate" are thing to keep in mind. We all have a small responsibility whether or not we accept it as acting advocates for LGBT.
In your circle of people you know, you may be the only TG/TS/GF person that they know, so aside from all the negative media you will be the example they think of when the topic of LGBT comes up.
Now as we all know, this won't sway everyone. Most people it seems just need a group of people to be their black sheep; they need somebody to hate it seems and so nothing you say or do, no matter how nice and sweet you are, they will always be bitter and cruel and non understanding. And close-minded. But maybe their kid will see you, or their friend will, or their mother, or.. you get the picture.
We are all celebrities, because once you are out, if you are, you will be a constant example for the entire LGBT community(with the people you know, anyway.
Anywho I love you all, kisses
