Just thought I'd share these with the class. I was about 15 months on T when I got tired of trying to wait and decided to give Minoxidil a try. Because I knew this was well within the time range where any growth could simply be due to testosterone, I applied it only to the left half of my face for about 2 months. These pictures didn't come out perfectly, but I hope they at least prove my point. One note- I did apply some beard and moustache dye, but I applied it evenly to both sides- one side is just not long enough to really dye much yet.

Right side: (no or minimal minox - I say minimal because there may have been a little overlap around the midline)

Left side: about 2 months on minox.

That's legit.. I may need to give this a try..

From what I've read, it only works for about 40% of people, and that's with ideal use in the area it's actually recommended for. But I saw enough other good results online that I figured it was worth a shot. I'm getting a little more chest and belly hair now too, though oddly the chest hair is all on my moobs and not along my sternum at all.

Can you take pictures in equal lighting and one from the front? I'm curious about trying this myself.

I tried, but my front-facing camera doesn't really focus well. I'll try to get a friend to take some in actual daylight when I can.

Wow, the difference is pretty dramatic.

Little update on progress- been applying to both sides for maybe a month now, and the left side (right side in the photos) is definitely still way ahead.

I'm gonna try this to see if it fills in my patchy beard. Thanks for the pics and using one side as an experimental control area. Lol

Okay so I've been trying this for the past month and can absolutely lend support to the benefits. I don't have pics, but I have seen about a 30% increase of facial hair within 1 month! Just to give you background info, I have been on T for nearly 2 years and before the monoxidil was only able to grow a chin strap with no moustache and very little hair/fuzz ON my actual chin. Within the month I have hair filling in my chin and a shadow of full beard hair, including moustache and cheeks.

I'm hella impressed, and glad to say it didn't cost a lot. I got an $8 extra strength generic minoxidil from walmart. Applied twice per day, it lasts one month. I'll be getting another bottle ASAP.  It does dry out your skin and can cause some irritation/ flaking, so I tend to apply it AFTER work and again before bed.  During the day I hydrate my skin with nivea, Vaseline and/or cocoa butter.

I should also add that I have an awesome barber who, from the beginning (starting T), shaped my sideburns and chinstrap to promote darker growth. By my 1 yr T anniversary, I had a very thin but dark chin strap. While trying minoxidil, I took an extra week (3 weeks) between haircuts to promote growth. My barber was still able to shape (not cut!) my beard to make my shadow beard look more pronounced. Needless to say, I praise my barber to no end for keeping my goals in mind for all this time.

I definitely recommend this to any guys on T that are trying to get that fuzz to grow into darker hair.

I have greasy skin (as a lot of you guys probably do too) does the minoxodil make you break out?

In my experience, it did. It dried my face out, then made me flaky, then made me break out. I had to stop using it.

I'd be interested in hearing more long-term results. That is, what happens if one applies minox for awhile and then stops. I've seen some reports of it all falling out. Some of those reports said they'd only applied it for a few months, there's speculation that you just need to do it long enough for the hairs to become good and established. More worryingly I've read some guys saying they have less hair than when they started, not sure if that's no-cebo effect/imagination or if that actually happens.

I'm coming up on 2 years on T, don't want to screw up what beard growth I have but I'm getting impatient for some actual mustache hairs. The upper lip is feelin kinda naked.

I just went on an internet search spree because I wanted to know everything about this. As far as I understand you´d have to use it regularly and continue using it, but that´s from the sites I went on. Apparently it can cause hair to shed initially as the body prepares to create new hairs (so yes you can lose them at first and then regrow them...).

Thanks for posting this. I´m not sure about trying it because aside from having a greasy face I´m also afraid of losing the little growth that I´ve got going on  :P

I discovered a side product while searching for this that is called "growther beard", beard farmer oil, and apparently it can also spur hair to grow in places where there was none, but it depends on hormones and genetics. On a side note biotin can help, eucalypt oil can help and apparently (from Man101) onions  ;D

So I was talking to my doctor about anti hair loss treatment (I'm paranoid about that) and he said my blood pressure was too low for Minoxidil. I guess it's also used for blood pressure. So be careful, guys! Check with your doctors before you try this.

I broke out a bit in the beginning and it was itchy. I figured it was my skin trying to adjust to the new hairs. This is month 2 and I haven't seen any rashes or bumps since the first couple of weeks. I also haven't experienced any shedding. Although not as thick all over, beard has filled in fully....Mustache is still light but making progress and still noticeable
