My internet went down - what an interesting experience!

You may have noticed I haven't been as active the last 5 days as my internet connector had a major issue. My entire suburb went down when something connecting the whatmacallit couldn't let people send important information such as their cat doing something cats do to the rest of the world.

That is a good thing.

But it also lead me into an interesting place. I couldn't act on the site so I have a backlog of work and about 200 messages to deal with. I couldn't do some, to me, important work and I couldn't talk to my friends about the cat I don't own doing things that cat's do.

I also realised that I am far too dependent on the internet to socialise and meet my friends.

So I had the experience of 'going out'. This is a ritual from ancient times where you dress in something nice, meet friends, go to a play, listen to live music, catch a comedy act and have a meal and a drink with people who you usually talk to electronically.

You even meet people you have never met before and create a strange thing called 'friendships' with total strangers. Some of the male ones are interesting, they have a ritual of what is called 'getting into your pants'. Luckily I change mine regularly so they are clean and hygienic.

I have to learn the rules though. Because when I came back from the toilet and handed him my pants so he could get in them he looked rather askew. But he bought me another drink because seemingly I was no longer in my pants. These ancient rituals are so strange!

And didn't see a single cat - nor a married one for that fact!

Real life is peculiar.

But my internet is back!

So I don't have to be real anymore!

I have a reservation at the Betty Ford clinic in case that ever happens. I think it would on par with having been on Heroin for 5 years straight then having your dealer busted. I also am prepare for such an emergency ,I just bought a black lace dress and If the net goes down I'll be in my favorite bar until it gets fixed.

Don't say you've become a Techno zombie?

I saw a doco over the weekend about south Korean kids who are addicted to their phones. They are have the personal skills less than 5 year olds and spend 18 hours on line a day. The go to rehab for 4 weeks and can't cope. Some run away or lash out. Worse yet is most of their parents treat it a child minding and promise them a brand new phone when they get home. What's the point???
They don't study or plan for their future.
Zombies that's what we are becoming.

Food for thought.

I am proud that I refuse to own a smart phone. I wouldn't call them smart but more a brain slug phone.

So long and thanks for all the fish

so true, last summer here in the US I was sitting outside a café on my mind control instrument and this guy in his 30's was walking down the street telling everyone they were zombies because everyone was either on a computer or on their phone walking or sitting at the outside cafes . You go into a restaurant and a group of people will be sitting at a table and they will all be on their phones instead of talking to the people at the table.

It's a very sad state of affairs.

Easy solution for a group at a restaurant.
All phones away in bags and those who touch them pay for the others who don't.

By the way he was right.
Stop disconnect and look around. See what is going on.
20 years ago this would have been seen as a serious addiction which it is.
$1,000 per phone which is superseded 6 months later that everyone buys. What a great business model they have that nobody notices.
What a drain on natural resources.
So long and thanks for all the fish

I imagine you remember the few times my internet has gone down Sis  :icon_userfriendly:  Everything was old tech then and I had to ride my bike down to the library to get on for an hour just to clear out my emails

The withdrawals were intense, but thanks to you I was able to ride it out and get through it

Thank you for being there Sis, glad you're back on again

Hugs

Cindy I liked your little story it's cute. When I was in my teens there was barely a internet and you had to use dialup to get on line and that took 30 minutes to an hour now you can do it in about 30 seconds depending on your system, how times have changed.

This goes back to ancient times, and there is a dialect of speak that seems kinda alien to our more modern interweb culture.

This is where the phone piece places the rather zombie like state in a group of friends and whatnot. As an outing would go, meeting up with friends, you probably gathered the idea through social media. Just to stay in the realm of social media, everyone stays in their phones to keep up with times, not realizing their friends are right there.

This is why I do not really own social media, ie; facebook, instagram, etc... etc...

My life motto: Wake Up and BE Awesome!

"Every minute of your life that you allow someone to dictate your emotions, is a minute of your life you are allowing them to control you." - a dear friend of mine.

Stay true to yourself no matter the consequence, for this is your life, your decision, your trust in which will shape your future. Believe in yourself, if you don't then no one will.

My crappy internet service goes down a few times a week. I can depend on that. I'd go out on the town if there were a town to go out on to. Sometimes it is very lonely living near one of nature's greatest creations.

In any case, I loved your post. ;) Thanks for the smile, Cindy.

I didn't see this, because I'm not online right now.

It gets pretty funny, I was sitting in an Einstein Bagels coffee place this morning and there were two co-eds sitting at a table across from each other , but not a word was said they were both surfing on their phones.

Sudden withdrawal like that can be dangerous. I've made sure I have a low dose backup though my mobile phone. Not as good as the real thing of course, but keeps me going.

Quotehanded him my pants so he could get in them
 Nauchty you.
Think that over 30 years we forget to talk and read, and the "boy,s" forget the get in your pants game. More dangerous is the driving/walking and texting as the indeed act as zombies.

Once I saw two of my nieces standing right next to each other and texting each other!

That's interesting Cindy - we have a several employees at my company that live down under and we had to reschedule some online meetings in the last couple of days with one of them because their internet was out. I wonder if the outage was larger than just your neighborhood?

I've had several power outages recently due to stormy weather and the internet tends to stay out past the power getting restored. I had my own withdrawal symptoms from that and I didn't know what to do with myself

These ancient rituals you speak of - wanting into my pants? How peculiar.
