The Daily Beast/Real Ally02.28.16 11:02 PM ET

"Amber LeMay, a 60-year-old, self-described drag queen, moved to Burlington, Vermont, in 1987 from Lima, Ohio.

Bernie Sanders was mayor of Burlington back then. LeMay said she fell in love with the place.

"I was impressed with the open and vocal gay community," she said. "There was the monthly newspaper, Out In The Mountains, and there were frequent protests and demonstrations with gay themes. This was a new world for me.""

I would expect nothing less. I still haven't decided if I will vote for Sen. Sanders or not, but I don't doubt his commitment to human rights.
Have you read my short story The Eve of Triumph?

Just one of the many reasons why I voted for Bernie in the primary. Even after he left Burlington, it remained a pretty good place as I recall from a couple of visits.

I have a friend who lives in Burlington and it is apparently an incredibly open and friendly place for trans people. I just wish my roommate was open to living in cold places!
