"Just one month after the death of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, President Obama on Wednesday announced the nomination of Merrick Garland to fill the vacancy on the nation's high court.

Garland, 63, is a longtime Washington lawyer who currently serves as the chief justice of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Washington, D.C. Circuit, often called the "second highest court in the land.""

I'm more than a little concerned about the dearth of rulings to indicate how he leans on the various issues. I know folks have called him a "centrist"/"moderate", but given that some have ascribed the same term to persons who were nowhere near moderate, I take it with a grain of salt. Interestingly, nowadays not having a lot of rulings actually seems to help in the confirmation process.

This has been SOP really ever since Bork.  Roll out a nominee with no real track record who can't be attacked on his record because he doesn't have much of a record.
When in doubt, ignore the moral judgments of anybody who engages in cannibalism.
