I started a course a few weeks ago in British Sign Language with my son.  He's out on the course while I am not as far down the road so I am not.  Anyway I was finding the session stressful and had to leave and immediately the rest of the course members became both transphobic and homophobic!  My son is a gay trans man and it seems they waited until I was out of the way to have a go at him!  I get so angry in this kind of situation and my son just wants to leave it but I feel I should do something.  The lecturer misgendered my son twice and then talked about "aunts with beards"!  Any suggestions as to what I should do?

Most schools in the US have a department that handles discrimination issues within the school. If you don't have the equivalent you will have to seek out the department head or somebody administrating the school.

Should that fail and you wish to remain, you need to put up with it or shame them by explaining this is a birth defect that you were born with. They are very low people to kid somebody for a defect they were born with and have no control over.

Can you speak to an administrator at the school? This should not be tolerated. The instructor needs to be reported.

Hugs. You and your son don't deserve this.
Have you read my short story The Eve of Triumph?

Thanks for your replies.  I'll go to see someone at the college.

I really hope you get this taken care of by talking to the school. That is definitely not okay. :-/ I'm sending good vibes for you and your son.
