Hiya,

I'm just wondering if you lovely people can tell me anything about your experiences with visible veins on your arms/hands and any changes observed after being on HRT. I've noticed that transmen often have veiny arms and transwomen do not, and the same rings true for cis people.

What do you reckon?

Thanks,

Veins have definitely changed for me. I used to have quite veiny hands/arms, making it easy for the nurse to do my blood tests.

Fast forward to now and they are barely visible and on my arm it is actually quite difficult to find it. They haven't fully disappeared yet which is what I am hoping for but there is still a lot more time for HRT to do its magic.

Good news! I wonder what causes that to change? Fat redistribution or water retention you'd think. Or maybe it's a blood thing?!?

You develop a thicker layer of fat under the skin.

I think also increased water retention from estrogen. My veins will become a little more apparent at the moment progesterone hits me since it is a diuretic (antimineralocorticoid) and decreases water retention. Same thing happens to me when I am sweating and losing water. I think in your arms and other parts of your body, when muscles are bulkier, veins are also more prominent so female HRT by reducing muscle mass, will help with this as well.
I am not a medical doctor, nor a scientist - opinions expressed by me on the subject of HRT are merely based on my own review of some of the scientific literature over the last decade or so, on anecdotal evidence from women in various discussion forums that I have come across, and my personal experience
