Hi, I'm Cara.
I'm new here and would very much like to make some trans friends!.

A little about myself. I recently discovered after doing many weeks of research that I am a transgender women. I had always know that I wanted to be a girl when I was younger, but always thought that because i was raised by my single mother that this was normal. Apparently not. As i got older, i realized that i was sexually attracted to men as well as women but blew this off as just being a phase. This went on for many years up until my senior year of high school and that is when I knew something was very different about me. I had not done any research up until about two months ago, and ever since then I feel as if I know who I am. Like I am part of something now. Since I have literally just figured out who I am, I have not yet come out to any of my friends or family. Nor have I talked to anybody about starting hormones.

If anybody is willing to help me through some of this it would be greatly appreciated.

Hey girl!

I'm in the same boat as you, with the whole not out to anyone or started anything.  Also would like some trans friends to help through this journey.  definitely can be a rough one, from what I've seen.  I personally have known about this and wanted it for close to 12 years now, but never had the courage or the ability to come out and do something about it.  reaching out like this to people like yourself is a good step forward. have you seen a therapist about this yet?

Well it is very nice to meet you then! I hope we both will be able to help each other with this very difficult decision in our lives! But sadly no, I have not gone to see a therapist yet. I was desperately wanting to see one that is a little closer to where I live, but unfortunately she was completely booked for the next few months.

Welcome to Susan's place. I am willing to help you but we need a starting point for discussion. The simple way of doing this for me to give you two links to look at. The first is our Wiki where you will learn what transgender means and you may find something that fits. The second link is "the transition channel" where you will see the questions that would be ask of you in therapy. The second link is more for transsexuals but it is your decision if it applies. Feel free to ask any questions you might have on this thread and I will do my best to answer them.

I appreciate your willingness to help me through this! I do identify as a transsexual women, but wanted to be a little more generalized for the sake of simplicity. And transitioning is definitely something I would like to do eventually. Hopefully after I come out to my transphobic mother.

Dear Supergirl and Angel,
I am happy to see you here. I am somewhat new here myself, but have already felt a lot of support from this site. (Thanks Susan and moderators) You can learn a lot and sometimes maybe help someone else from time to time. It is always nice to see people finding themselves. I know I am working on this myself. Good luck and hope to see you around.

help is most welcome in this situation.  that kind of stinks.  my current therapist isn't a gender therapist, but i know there are a few nearish to where i live.  I'm kind of in a situation of waiting to see what my next move will be. I just know that i really want to pursue transition.

Hey there, i know how you feel i begin my transition soon and i know how scary it can be, just know that you're not alone so many people out there feel the same way and at the end of the day we all just want to be happy, theres nothing wrong with that
