I'm honestly not sure whether to post this in the health or the testosterone section, because it concerns testosterone, but I'm also involving other medication I'm on. So I just want to start off by apologizing if this has been miscategorized.
A couple weeks back, I took my shot of T in my right thigh as usual, and most of the stuff seemed to fall back out of the injection site. It bothered me, but I did research, learned how to inject myself properly, and resolved to do better next time. I ended up getting some help from my mom, which I did not want to do, but I had to put on my big boy pants and get the job done, and oddly, that meant asking my mom for help. Well, it worked. I took half my usual dose and I'll take the other half next week.
Over the past few weeks I've been having a lot of anxiety, especially around food and weight. I do have bipolar disorder and quite a lengthy history of eating disorders, so none of this is at all a surprise to me. I went to my psydoc and said, look, my meds aren't doing the job. So we talked about it and he lowered my Prozac, asked me to taper off Neurontin (gabapentin), which I've only been on for three weeks, and added Trileptal (oxcarbazepine).
I've taken so. damn. many. mood stabilizers and antidepressant type drugs over the last ten years or so but I've never had Trileptal. I'm gonna take it because I'm desperate, but I still want to ask the community here about it. In particular, I want to ask about experiences with both the Trileptal and testosterone.
The reason is, the (limited) literature says that Trileptal can potentially lower T levels in men, which I gather means cis men in particular. I haven't yet found anything that concerns Trileptal and cis men or anyone else taking IM testosterone injections concurrently. Plus, the study only used eight participants, so I feel that it might not even be very telling for cis men, which may be why my psydoc didn't see fit to warn me about it. He did warn me that the Trileptal can cause low sodium levels, which may be something I need to look out for anyway, since I tend to avoid salt because I worry it will cause me to bloat.
So, anything that the community might be able to tell me about their experiences with Trileptal, either by itself or while taking hormones, would be appreciated greatly. Thanks for your time.
