Hmm... Prometrium, anyone?

I'm wondering of your experiences on prometrium, and if that has impacted your face in ways? This might be a question with an obvious answer, but I thought I'd ask it anyway. I have been on it for one day. I'm extremely hungry that I'm annoyed with myself.  I am not concerned with breast growth, as I already have bouts of it from time to time. I'm wondering if prometrium is worth taking for me. Maybe I should just start later? I'm only 5-6 months in anyway, on hormones, 2 weeks of a consistent, good dose.

Thanks!

Edit: Prescribed by my doctor, not self-medicating.

I like it, how it makes me feel, makes my skin less dry, I think and my hair too. Helps me sleep better at night. But yea, can make you hungrier and gain weight. Also can be somewhat anti-estrogenic.

Best to discuss with your doctor. :)

In addition to practically being a sleeping pill (so to speak  ;D ), a lot of progesterone symptoms that I have been experiencing are "pregnant lady symptoms" i.e. random cravings, back ache, and boob swelling. I have gained a fair bit of weight, but it has distributed itself nicely. I would recommend it.

All I will say is that I hope you discuss this with your endocrinologist or doctor. If you are self-medicating and randomly trying new product, as your post suggests, you are putting your health at risk.

I use Microgest, which is the same thing. It makes me very sleepy and dizzy about an hour after I take it so I only do so before going to bed. It also makes my breasts swell a bit, not sure about actual growth, but I like it.

My endo does blood tests for it to check levels.

Unfortunately it's not available in Australia.

I've been on it for four years now since the start of hrt and like my development in general has been pretty amazing so idk I'm biased, I'd say stick with it. The hunger part is typical and like I just snack on something when I get the hunger pains.

I'm echoing you on the way it makes me feel. I feel calm and discerning.  I haven't felt this way in a long time. That alone makes this a keeper for me.

Thanks for your take on it, maybe I too will experience those changes. (: I'm curious though- my doctor told me to try taking it at night, however, I'm up at 6 am today. I'm never up at that time. While I don't feel restless or tired, suggesting I had a good sleep, I'm wondering if that's actually true. I have a lot of energy now. Maybe I should take it in the afternoon sometime time, see how that makes me feel.

Yes, it has been prescribed to me by my doctor. I actually had a blurb in my post about that, but I deleted it, because the rest of it wasn't congruent with my post. She told me to see how I feel, if I decide to stop taking it or not.  I should have been more clear, I'm sorry about that. Edited my beginning post.

It is an interesting pill indeed. I just woke up from a dream about watching a show with actors Kevin Spacey and Anna Gunn (from Breaking Bad) in a room, talking dramatically while surrounded by cupcakes. Seriously, the cupcakes everywhere. I don't think my dreams are helping my cravings. :P

Also shows that I need to watch less netflix...

It also gives me plenty of energy so that I get less tired and need to sleep less, the reason being, I suspect, that it slows down unnecessary brain activity (our negative or obsessive thoughts, for instance). We don't realize this but some much energy is spent thinking when really it could be redirected elsewhere and in a more productive and positive way.

LOL. I sometimes have very vivid and weird dreams too. Happens to many of us taking progesterone.

I'm about to start prometrium. I'm already having crazy, silly but not scary dreams on estrogen. I wonder what they will be like now...
