"Mississippi is officially first in the nation in bigotry. This week, the state rode a wave backlash against LGBT rights in passing a "religious liberty" bill, one that could prove to be the most harmful anti-LGBT legislation yet. The bill allows businesses and employers to discriminate against queer and transgender people based on "sincerely held religious belief or moral conviction." This means that restaurants can deny service to LGBT customers, employers can fire workers (or decline to hire them to begin with) based on sexual orientation or gender identity, and county clerks can refuse to sign the marriage certificates of same-sex couples. In addition, doctors can deny lifesaving treatment or transition-related care to trans patients."

Mississippi's bill makes it so no one can be prosecuted for being anti LGBT and states that sex is determined only at birth.

North Carolina's mandates that trans people cannot use government restrooms unless they match the birth certificate. On top of the religious freedom garbage. It also requires state officials to go on the record and register if they are unwilling to provide services to The LGBT community and puts the oweness on circumventing the bigots on the aggrieved party.

Kansas' has it so that children can turn in trans kids using a school accommodation that they identify with, and the snitch receives a $250 bounty. On top of the religious freedom garbage.

All of which are really horrible, though I don't know which is worst. Deputizing bullies? Inciting trans panic? Giving Carte Blanche to bigots?
