At work this morning the conversation between two co-workers turned to the "bathroom" bills.  I couldn't resist interjecting some realism into it and one, who also happens to be a Baptist minister came over to talk to me.  I explained the science behind trans, as it now exists, and the reason many people have waited until later in life to come forward.  Basically I said that they are tired of feeling like crap all the time and wanting to die and that the social environment today is more receptive than it was in the 80s and before.

It went very well and he listened, understanding that it's not a question of morals and that there are epigenetic neurological things going on.

Despite my long hair and HRT Im not out at work and I have no idea what he thinks about me knowing all that.  So, it's a good thing I don't care anymore LOL.

Love is not obedience, conformity, or submission. It is a counterfeit love that is contingent upon authority, punishment, or reward. True love is respect and admiration, compassion and kindness, freely given by a healthy, unafraid human being....  - Dan Barker

Well done, Deborah! That took some courage, and it sounds like you made a difference.  This is one of the best ways to effect change, by engaging people one or two at a time, face to face and with respect.

Funny thing to me about the whole BR bill bit is, it's CREATING the "problem" they set out to stop.
So, before, you'd have some minor issues, and especially for MTF, there'd be some risk of being arrested for being in the "wrong" restroom.
Now, there's no way to arrest a man who comes out of the pool wearing men's trunks, and walks into the women's room to change. (I figure that was done to protest the stupidity behind the bills.)
And an FTM with a full beard could now be faced with the problem of going to the ladies' room - and getting a beat down for that...  Or going to the men's room, and being arrested for that.

Could we please get sane and intelligent people in elected office? (I know, I know, those type of people AVOID elected office, but I can dream, right?)
