Yesterday, I spent some time running around town in a new wig that I bought recently.

I normally wear my natural hair, which is average length for a woman, but yesterday, I decided to mix it up.

The wig was better quality than other's i've tried, but it was pretty disconcerting whenever I would catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror.  All I could see was the wig!

I could try to get an even better quality wig (would love recommendations), but i'm curious how much of this is due to wig quality, fit, and match vs. me just not being used to seeing something that different from my everyday appearance.

I am not sure where you purchased your wig but I recommend going to a wig shop. You can chose from different style wigs and they will cut/style the wig so it will look right on your face. I tried several wigs when I was starting out and the mail order wigs were a loss. The wig shop wigs looked far better in addition to looking right the first try.

Can't stand them...having hair implants next week. I know many here are happy with their wigs and the way they look but for me it is just like putting a sign around my neck....I have a really good quality human hair wig...in fact I am wearing in it in my photo...nice wig but still a wig....I'd like my own flowing tresses LOL

The only thing about wigs  is the synthetic ones get snarled and loose their shape very quickly.

Hate them.  I purchased one and when I wore it I felt like I was hiding.  Not sure what I was hiding.

I don't have a choice as I am quite bald. If you have the chance to use your own hair then go for it.
Hard to do if you are not out to the world and trying to live 2 lives.
I can only dream of having lovely flowing locks.
So therefore to me Wigs are great. Since I don't venture out then the look is just for me and I love it.
Treat life's difficult times as if they are normal moments, this makes the normal and special ones even more fantastic.

I'm with SueNZ on this. I used to have hair below my shoulders but that ship has long passed.

I did go to a shop that specializes in wigs for people with hair loss (whether natural or medically forced). I spent more than I wanted to but on a synthetic that seems to hold it's style (I did have it styled) well. It just needs brushing and then every so often a washing and brushing again.

Thanks all. I definitely went the wig shop route, and tried on more than I can  remember before picking the one I bought. It's synthetic, but to date hasn't lost its shape.

Can go with my natural hair, but getting the right cut has been hit and miss. The last cut was more miss than hit, which is why I tried a wig for real this weekend.

Not sure that a natural hair wig will be dramatically better, but would love to hear that I'm wrong.

Actually Liz your hair looks  pretty good. You just need it styled to thin it out a bit. I find with my wig that was the problem. The wig itself came unstyled and the hair needed evening up and lightening. Weight not color. By lightening the weight you get more natural movement depending how much you get cut off.
