Adams Apple Shaving and Risk of damaging vocal chords

Hi guys do any of you know the risks of damaging the vocal cords during the adam's apple shaving procedure? While I used to work in the plastic surgery industry, I have am not familiar with this particular procedure as it wasn't a procedure the surgeons I work with performed. I am worried that my vocal chords could be damaged and it might end up making my voice sound coarse and deeper or worse, I may become mute permanently.

Have any of you experienced such side effects from the procedure?

The answer to your question is yes and no. I am thin with a massive larynx and an adams apple like a boat keel. My plastic surgeon said that he could improve it but removing all of it wouldn't be possible without damaging the voice. There still remains a small bump but it's much better than it was before and the voice wasn't harmed. One girl on the site wanted more removed that the surgeon was comfortable with and had to sign a release. The surgeon was correct and her voice was damaged as the result.

Dr Haben can remove more when doing voice surgery but he needs to re enforce the larynx in the process. I was comfortable with the results of my surgery from the past so we didn't go there.

If a surgeon fails to warn you about removing to much, they may be unaware of the danger. I used a reconstructive surgeon who was very aware of the danger and gave me the best of both worlds.

I feel I have a huge adam's apple too. Did the surgery leave a scar on your neck and was there any pain or temporary loss of speech?

The surgery left a faint white line on my neck that has become a bit larger as I aged. It's easy to cover with makeup if you don't want it showing but I have people I have known for months and they didn't notice the scar until I point it out. I had my nose done at the same time and I didn't notice any discomfort from my neck as all my attention was focused on my nose. Because the surgeon was careful, my voice was not affected. The larynx retained it's original shape and remained fully functional. The adams apple is a growth on the outside of the larynx so removal will not alter your speech. The problem is when the surgeon moves beyond the adams apple and into the larynx.
