At 57, am I too old to have facial feminization surgery?

I am 57 years old and am considering having brow bossing or forehead contouring, and a brow lift. I have had a consult with one of the two most know doctors in Bangkok and he does not suggest doing a hair line advancement. From what I have read, his procedure is quite invasive, and now relatively expensive. I am concerned about the risks of having this surgery at my age. In the past, he was thought to be one of the best, at a responsible price. So, his reputation gives me some comfort.

The other issue is he does have a really good  reputation, but it seems that he prices are now attempting to take advantage of his notoriety. But, now many more doctors around the world are using the same technique at lower cost.

The complete healing process can take as many as six months. I am in good health, generally speaking. But, this gives me some added reservations.

What do you think? Am I too old? Are there other options as far as bone shaving, and should I consider other doctors in Thailand and elsewhere?

Welcome to Susan's Place. I am going to move this tread to the FFS area where it will receive more response. I have not had FFS but the surgery can be pretty brutal. You need to check with your doctor to see if you are healthy enough for an extended surgery but if you are healthy enough, you should be able to handle the surgery. We have another member Puala1 who is older than you and she has returned home from her surgery. I suspect her recovery might take a bit longer but there were no complications.

Too old? If it helps your self esteem and improves your life then you are not too old. At 57, you easily have another 30 years of life.

It cost as much as a cheap vehicle and people buy that at any age.

Thanks Anony for quoting my post. Not much to add..I'm going to be 68 next week.. I would only advise that you keep the time under GA to the minimum, at around 4.5 hours.

Just to add that FFS is normally painless on the recovery but there will be discomfort. Plus, when they perform brow reduction you will have a scalp numbness .  My feeling in certain areas ofthe scalp is only now returning and it's a bitch, as it gets really itchy as the nerves connect.

I was 54 when I had mine last year.  My FFS really helped me feel better about myself. I had a breast augmentation done at the same time. The FFS just softened my features so that now I feel confident I am pretty much just blending in. As long as your in generally good health you should be fine.

I was 56 when I had FFS last Sept, 10 hour surgery because of all the soft tissue and nasal valve reconstruction.

So, no, you are not to old.

I had my first facial surgery in 2004 when I was 59, a revision in 2014 when I was 69 and now proper FFS for the first time two weeks ago and I am now 70.

My new business partner puts me at 52 !!!!!

I know of a girl in the USA who had her FFS at 73, is now 86 and looks much younger !!!!

Hi Dena,

Two weeks on and you can hardly tell that I have had FFS with Facial Team in Spain.

My patient coordinator Laura is rather shocked at how quickly I am recovering.

Us WW2 babies are tough cookies so the rationed food must have helped .... 

12 years ago I looked beaten up for many months after my first facial surgery.

The nose ( a different matter ) is still a bit swollen but all of the associated bruising has virtually gone.

Facial Team offer lymph drainage massage as part of their surgery package and now they also offer acupuncture therapy. This must have helped as I fell fast asleep during these therapies.

The guy who stuck pins in me last week said that I had massive energy for a woman of my age, so thanks to my parents I am fortunate indeed.

But I will try and not overdo it despite my going back to work part time already just two weeks after my operation.

However I also respect that different people heal at different rates and have low or high pain thresholds ( mine are luckily very high ) and overall health plays a large factor and how well and fast the patient recovers.
