NEW YORK (CNNMoney) — Target said Tuesday that transgender customers at its stores are welcome to use the bathroom that matches their gender identity, the latest corporate reaction to a wave of legislation seen by critics as anti-LGBT.

"We welcome transgender team members and guests to use the restroom or fitting room facility that corresponds with their gender identity," the retailer said. "Everyone deserves to feel like they belong."

YAY! Hopefully Targets will be safe spaces. Kudos to Target!

That is very good to know although not having that buy in hasn't stopped me up till now.

April 22, 2015, the day of my first face to face pass in gender neutral clothes and no makeup. It may be months to the next one, but I'm good with that!

Being transgender is just a phase. It hardly ever starts before conception and always ends promptly at death.

Kudos to Target. I don't have issues using the women's restroom; however, I always choose the private universal restroom if one is available.

I like how they said "that corresponds with their gender identity"

Not your manner of dressing, not your chromosomes, not whether you're on hormones or had surgery. Your identity.

Well done, Target.  :)

I've always felt welcome in Target stores.  I've been approached by employees while shopping in the ladies' section, presenting masculine or feminine... and they've always just genuinely wanted to know if I needed help with anything.  No comments going into the change room; friendly chatter about the results as I leave the change room.  And then... I encountered a visibly transgender cashier.  That store instantly became my favorite.  ;)

The American Family Association released a statement urging its members to boycott the big-box store and support a petition that had more than 129,000 signatures as of Thursday night.

AFA President Wildmon said that the policy "poses a danger to our wives and daughters" and " is exactly how sexual predators get access to their victims."

I went to their web site and submitted a simple comment in their contact section that I will NOT sign their boycott and we are NOT a threat to their wives, daughters or sons.

Maybe if they got a 100,000 comments from us they would open there eyes!
