Growing up interex "my story"

Hello, my name is Bernyce I'm 25 years old and recently found out I was intersex. I am going to share my life story "growing up intersex" so maybe  someone else who's in my situation won't feel alone.

I was born and raised as a female, but my body started to take a turn around mid puberty. I was a normal little girl who played with dolls and loved fashion. I could hang out with other girls without being judged. When I was about 10-12 years old I no longer felt like a girl. I felt like I was turning into a boy for a strange reason but I didn't know. I did get my period around 13 but very irregular. My freshmen year in HS I started to notice I looked different than the other girls. My shoulders were broadening and my hips were very narrow, while the other girls were getting wider hips and narrow waists. I was hoping that I was just a late Bloomer and my hips would eventually get wider. By my early 20s I joined the dating scene. The dating scene was a nightmare for me. I joined a couple dating sites and guys would often ask if I'm a dude and I asked why and one pointed out that my face and shoulders were way to broad to be a girl. At 24 I talked to my doctor and and she did an X-ray and she told me I had a male skeleton which is abnormal for a woman. She sent me to a gyno and my gyno performed an ultra sound and I found out I have one functioning ovary and one streak ovary that doesn't function. That's why I have menstrual periods but irregular. She sent me back to my doctor and my doctor did chromosome test and I found out I'm XXY instead of XX. I have learned this is who I am and I cannot change. I do think I'm more male than female and I even use men's restrooms for my safety and to avoid being arrested. I can't seem to click with women so most of my friends are men.

Bernice,I'm the opposite,i was born male and raised make,when I was 13 I developed like a girl,small breasts,body size. Clean shaven I pass real well and confuse people. One look at my pic you would think I was female.

I have a similar situation... Only I did go to a doctor at one point and he did an ultrasound and I was ok. But I always had an issue of irregularity with my cycles and my build was always where I have broad shoulders a bigger back and narrow hips I have no hips whatsoever and I did a DNA test recently that said I was xyx. Which I believe is the same as xxy. I have had like one time where people said I was transsexual on a dating site because of my build but I always chug that off to more like haters than anything. Did they prscribe you any medication? Can they like actually fix it? Or no?

Many of us do find out later rather than sooner.

We are kinda the same but opposite.  I was assigned male at birth, perceived myself as female growing up, and took on a quasi-female puberty at my early teens.

I thought I could use my female by inter-sex diagnosis to support my transition to female to my family.  It was information that proved pointless.

No matter, it is what you learn about your own circumstance and how you decide what is best for your own well-being.

Think of this as a blessing; this makes you more unique - more only you and no one else same as you.  Please read through the threads here for insight.  You have many options available to you; explore them with your medical team.  Best wishes to you.

That sounds very similar to my case, Pinkjay91, other than that I always felt male. I tried to "be a girl" from menarche onwards, but couldn't really cut it, and returned to boyhood earlier this year. I'm not confirmed intersex, but I brought it up with a doctor earlier this week and she was almost certain that I was. The current suspicion is that I was born ambiguous and assigned female at birth because I had some form of uterus, but that my "female side" doesn't work properly. I am in fact rather relieved to be intersex, rather than trans male as I'd thought, because I could hopefully get ahead in the queue for HRT and reassignment.
