One recommendation I would like to pass on is a book titled True Selves (search Amazon) which provides great information, sample letters and advice on coming out to family, coworkers and friends. There are some reviews that were not good but even so I think it's worth reading and even lending out to people as when one comes out it's best in my opinion to not fully open the flood gates to people. Also some people may not want to ask particular questions but may end up research on the web while handing them a copy might work better especially if you read it and they come back with questions and reference things in the book.

I read the book cover to cover and found the parts concerning coming out in the workplace very beneficial. This assisted me with my announcement to human resources and planning and executing my plan for announcing my intentions to my team (twenty plus) in a weekly meeting. In the meeting I mentioned that a copy of True Selves was at my desk for anyone to borrow. I know for a fact that four coworkers borrowed the book as they chatted with me later and in short said the book explained a lot to them and thanked me for sharing this book.

Of course there are plenty of resources out there on the Internet but I wanted a comprehensive resource which was easy to tote around with me so I could highlight and form a plan. There are some people who don't have a plan and wing it which might work for some but would guess having a plan and rehearsing beforehand is best.

Fortunately when asked by a former therapist to be interviewed for his book "Journeys of Transformation" by Reid Vanderburgh, a renowned therapist the book True Selves helped me with this interview and ended up in his book last year.

I believe the book's full title is Trans Bodies, Trans Selves.
A Most Excellent Book. Well organized and written for not just a TG but also geared to friendlies. A sort of How to and everything you wanted know about TG.

It also appears to be on a "Should Have" list for libraries. My little back woods trans and homophobic "Village" 5 miles from NYC had it along with another library in rural western Maryland when I looked to see if was there for a friend

Hi Karen! My Therapist recommended that book. It's been helpful. That and gender outlaws.

I believe the book you are referring to is:

True Selves - Understanding Transsexualism - For Families, Friends, Coworkers and Helping Professionals.
By: Mildred L Brown & Chloe Ann Rounsley
ISBN: 0-7879-6702-5

I actually book marked 16 different sections as "this relates to me."   I found the book a little dated though but the content is still relevant.  It is definitely a good resource to help explain all the different aspects and terms.
