WATCH: Alabama chief justice: 'Trans people have mental illness'

"The chief justice of Alabama, Roy Moore, has attacked an ethics probe that is to be launched against him as politically motivated by "mentally ill" trans people.

Talking in a press conference this week, Mr Moore said that "atheists, homosexuals and transgender individuals" were attacking him by making politically motivated complaints against his administrative order to prevent marriage equality in the state. "

He and I have the same alma mater.  But I suspect our similarities end there, LOL.

He was removed as Chief Justice once before for refusing to remove a Ten Commandments monument from the Court.

"Roy Stewart Moore (born February 11, 1947) is an American judge, Republican politician, and the current Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court. In 2003, during Moore's first term as Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court, he refused to remove a monument of the Ten Commandments (which he had commissioned) from the Alabama Judicial Building despite orders to do so from a federal judge. On November 13, 2003, the Alabama Court of the Judiciary unanimously removed Moore from his post as Chief Justice."  https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roy_Moore

Roy Moore has been a reactionary for a while now. After the Obergefell decision, he ordered Alabama judges to ignore it and continue refusing to grant gay couples marriage licenses. I don't feel like being banned, so I'm not even going to hint at my personal feelings about Roy Moore because I don't think I could be sincere without violating a whole handful of the Terms of Service.
Have you read my short story The Eve of Triumph?

Ray Moore is certainly entitled to his beliefs but he doesn't have the right to impose them on others which is what he has been doing in his position as chief justice. Actions have consequences and now he has to deal with those consequences. He is a grown man and he had to have known what was going to happen if he misused his position - and yet he chose to proceed anyway. Now he's complaining about the consequences which is disingenuous.

His denouncing of LGBT people as mentally ill goes against what medical science knows about LGBT people. His refusal to educate himself about LGBT people reveals a narrow mind that rejects evidence that contradicts what he wants to believe.

I wonder how many cases that he's been involved with over the years where being LGBT was a factor that were negatively influenced because of his beliefs?

IMO he's a bigot, he doesn't deserve to be a sitting judge, and he deserves whatever consequences come his way.

Earlier versions of the DSM considered gay people and, of course, us to be mentally ill. There are a reasonable number of medical people who believe those changes were political and incorrect. There are a larger group who accept that minority opinion as gospel.
April 22, 2015, the day of my first face to face pass in gender neutral clothes and no makeup. It may be months to the next one, but I'm good with that!

Being transgender is just a phase. It hardly ever starts before conception and always ends promptly at death.

He and his ilk are pretty much American versions of the Taliban. Dedicated to preserving a culture in which they held most of the power. Meanwhile society progresses.
