Does sex replace dilatation ?

This is a topic that my boyfriend and I talk about regularly lately and we both just don't understand why everybody says that sex doesn't replace dilation. I completely understand why an Vagina after Srs would close up if you do nothing with it but if it is in regular use? I mean if your partner has an above average penis and you have sex everyday maybe also multiple times why doesn't that replace dilation or at least makes it a lot easier and less time consuming?

At first, sex will damage the surgery as it still needs to heal. Once you are cleared for sex, sex will replace a dilation. The trade off is if your guy is undersized it would be desirable to use some dilatation to maintain your size over the first year or two. Others have gone only with undersized sex and when the relationship broke up, they needed dilation to return to normal size.

I am very post surgical and went 10 years without dilation. When I returned to it, things were rather tight and I walked a little funny after the first few sessions but I have regained what I lost. Monitor yourself carefully to figure out what you can and can't do as regaining what you lost can be time consuming and a little painful.

Brassard says that one round of sex can replace one dilation session later on (it's a bad idea until everything is fully healed). I have no idea why other surgeons apparently say otherwise? Not that it matters to me, as I don't have sex with guys anyway.

The one caveat is that penises are squishier than hard solid plastic, so it's not a good idea to drop the dilators altogether until you're sure that you won't lose anything; the only way to really stretch to maximum depth and width is with something that has no give to it. However, at this point (3 years post-op) I'm dilating about once a month and it's fine, so it's certainly possible to get to a stage where appointments with the actual dilators are few and far between.
