A Fair Workplace is an Empowering Workplace

This is the story of a black transgender lesbian. Before you steel yourself for a long litany of pain, let me not bury the lede; there is no long litany of pain. Not that needs to be recounted here, at any rate,  because this is a story about how things go right and how people can surprise you.

I just read the article... WOW! That was so uplifting, thank you for making me smile today.

Publicizing amazing stories like this is what helps set the example for other employers and authority figures re: ALL human rights. Good for you Adrienne. <3

Nice article Adrienne!  I love it when companies actually support their employees like that.

Just 10 minutes before I saw your link I read this article: https://www.bostonglobe.com/business/2016/06/03/supports-for-transgender-employees-inspires-loyalty/TD0uYh76IiMboA1lRzXuPK/story.html
which was another uplifting story on a company doing right by their transgender employees.  It was Microsoft which is a bit north of New Relic but not very far away.

My tale is also surprisingly positive with the company putting me in some of our women's groups and even encouraging me to take more of a leadership role in them.  It even looks like I may end up attending Grace Hopper later this year.

I wish our positive experiences were global and across all industries.  It seems that software companies generally do better in this area than many others.
