So i talked to my counselor today and i have no problem with him i think he is nice and helpful.
My problem is that when i got into the topic of "What do i have to get or do for certain surgery's"
He had absolutely no clue and that concerned me he got my my letter for HRT but it doesn't sound like he knows
how i do things around where i live or how the process is done, It makes me feel insecure and scared.
I just want to see what people think on this because i'm starting to wonder if its time for me to find someone who
knows a lot more about these subjects. Not that he didn't help he did but i'm stuck on what i am wanting to do i guess.

I honestly don't know anything about your therapist, but it doesn't sound like he has much experience dealing with trans patients or WPATH standards. If he did, then I would imagine he would know how to go about it. Now that doesn't mean you can't help teach him by showing him the WPATH standards and helping get him up to speed yourself. Do you have any other therapist options around you? Hugs

It's possible that your therapist has not dealt with a transgender person wanting surgery before--it might be best to look around for another one or just to be patient.

Basically you have two options.
You could get information from other people like from boards, info sites and from experiences of other people ... and talk it through and discuss it with them ... you might also tell them its important for you so they may get informed themselves...

or you could look for someone more versed in that subject ...
for example asking at lgbt centers or trans groups for a referral ...
or maybe working with online therapists for subjects concerning surgery:

you may also ask a few surgeons for info material...

http://www.topsurgery.net/surgeons/                        this is about top surgery

http://brownsteincrane.com/ftm-surgery/                  this for example is top and bottom surgery.

It may also be possible to look with keywords like ftm surgery .

Well he may not have experience with trans people, as many others have said. I went to a therapist who primarily works with transgendered people everyday, but as soon as I got my letter my parents were nope, no more of that therapist. So basically I have to see this therapist who doesn't know anything about the LGBTQ community or the WPATH standards of care, so each session we talk and I slowly have been teaching him about what it means to be trans so that if he get's another person, he can work with them easier. One of the things I am not sure about is that when it comes to surgeries, mainly SRS, I know you have to have two therapists write a letter for you, but what I don't know is if just any therapist you see can do that if they have documented your 1 year IRL experience. I hope it could work that way because if not, I've been slowly putting days out there where I do IRL, and it's becoming almost a daily thing now, but I'm not sure what I'll do because the nearest therapist who could write a letter, or is willing to, would be all the way in orlando for me, which means an hour drive. But anyways, I would try say look up resources to help your therapist understand :)
