I did mine in Missouri after only a BA and I got a lawyer. $750 and they filed everything, went to court with me, did all the talking (mostly, you do have to answer questions, etc.) and even refiled after the fact to get another court order for the DHSS to change my name on my childrens' birth certificates. I got a conservative judge both times, and he granted my name and gender change court order, then the court order for DHSS (Since they said they had to have one to change my name on my children's BC even after the name and gender change court order). Too much legal work for me to wrangle with; damn glad my lawyer did it all. Both times were quick in the court room. That allowed me to change my name and my gender on my Missouri driver's license, SSN, passport, etc. My BC is from NM, and they REQUIRE a letter from the surgeon stating gender reassignment surgery was performed. My court order was rejected 4 times by NM for changing my BC gender. LOL Had to have the surgeon letter.... (I even tried a letter from my primary care physician with NM, to no avail. h8rs ha!).
