Megan.

Hypothetical question just for fun. If you had to live the first half your life as one gender and then change to the other, which way round would you do it?

I think I would want to start out as Female then change to Male.  Reasons:
1) Pregnancy - I think I would like to go through that once.
2) I could "back out" and stay Female, after all I don't want to be Male!  (can I back out of the arrangement?)

I don't want to offend anyone but I'd say start off as female. It's much easier and quicker for T to make you look male than estrogen to make you look female. Plus it seems some mtfs have to be on other medications to transition properly. Mtfs also face a lot more discrimination when going out as their real selfs than ftms.

Ok, just for clarification, no, you HAVE to transition, but you WILL pass when you do, a straight gender swap.

Well I'd say start as male then. I wouldn't wish periods on my worst enemy or pregnancy or the sexism involved.

Starting out (pre-puberty) wouldn't be much of a concern when the difference is insignificant and not that noticeable.  It would be ok to start out as male as long as transition could begin at puberty with female puberty changes; avoiding development of those undesirable male characteristics (facial & body hair, voice change, and genital growth  >:-) :().

I'm stuck on 'Half'. Just how is that defined? Or, is there some foreknowledge about expected lifespan? 45? 62? 97? 19? This can quickly get complicated. I've almost dead twice now thanks to accidents with a possible third save by an angel before I was 30. Then add in a basket case like me with MPB starting at around 14-16. Do I want to grow old as a bald woman or a bald guy? Gee that's an easy one to answer.

Wow... interesting question. And I've given this a lot of thought. I can't answer it. ;) I really can't. I wouldn't want to go through this change EVER again. I'm happy with who I am and I'm proud of myself for my accomplishments. But starting over? OMG... the thought of it makes me ill. ;)

I think that now I have to go mow the lawn now... this question has be disturbed... EWEEEE.  >:-)

Assuming you lived to 80, you'd swap at 40.

In the months to year or so after I dropped the T-Bomb on my wife (several years older), she often said to me; "No one in their right mind wants to be a 50 year old woman". If my wife was handy she can fill in the details, and she has a long list of them. They basically boil down to male privilege really kicks in at 40 when most women are seen and treated as having reached their "Sell-By" date.

Haha, very cunning.

To be  brutally honest I think from an egoistic point of view you want  to be female till 40 so you can enjoy all  the wonderful things about it (even have a baby) and be the motivation for everybody else to do good rather that being a bitch like a lot of cute girls are
Then swap to be a man and protect your family and teach  your kids how to overcome the  hard times and be their hero and play football with them and all the good things that come with experience and wisdom.

Don't get me wrong I'm not saying that a female can't be wise or a hero... it's just how I'd have liked it for myself

I'd start male and hope for a good wife and children that would remain part of my life once I became female.

Eventually living the dream my wife and I with our kids each made from half of us.

Hypothetical is fun :)

I'd be MTF. Assuming I'd live to 80, I'd like to spend the younger half of my life as male. It sometimes get to me that I never experienced childhood & teenhood as male, and of course I'd want to be a young strong man when I got to college age. Plus, no periods, risk of getting pregnant, the awful experience of going through female puberty, etc. The day I would turn into a woman would be a sad day for me, but by forty, I'm not going to be doing impulsive/stupid things anymore. Things would slow down.

Hi. I would prefer to be an FTM. Actually, I'm considering an ftm top surgery in Mississauga.

I have booked an appointment with my surgeon and I'm eagerly waiting for my first appointment. I'm fed up of being a female. .

If nothing else about me changed and you take out the transition period/problems, I'd pick MTF. No disempowering female socialization holding me back from being and doing what I wanted. (As others said, no periods, no pregnancy fears, no being dogged by constant fear of rape.)

I could deal with being an old bat after all that. Men don't find me attractive? Bring it on! Getting stared at, touched, and harassed by randos in public sucked! And old ladies do get respect in certain situations, more so than young women. Oh, and don't forget all the mind trips about sex young females are subjected to. Old bats are assumed to be "experienced". Plus, healthwise, old lady trumps old man any day of the week. Only problem would be having to give up being a guy. I am the sort who likes my dessert last. Problem is, dinner made me sick to my stomach, hard to enjoy anything after that.
