I've lived in the same area for 20 years so I know all the cab drivers from pre transition.  There is this one particular cab driver that refuses the reality that I'm a woman. All the other cabbies are starting to say ma'am , but this particular one I think has some heavy duty baggage he's carrying around . I took a cab to the LGBT clinic  I go to which is something like 15 miles from my apartment. The who damn ride he was determined to emphasize the fact that I use to present male. I had on a really pretty white dress just above the knee with black fishnet stockings and my face done perfectly. The Neanderthal kept calling me sir   the whole trip and when I got out in front of the clinic came a big expressive sir. Wow, and I was just getting over from one of the worse flu events that has lasted a very annoyingly long time. sorry just a rant.

Sorry about that clod Stephanie.  I had a similar experience volunteering recently and was verbally taunted by a similar clod who knew me from back in the day.  He loudly used my dead name and sir'ed me, I smiled and replied; "well thank you ma'am."  Red face walking away.  I occasionally use that humor on my friends when they "forget" too often.

Too bad you didn't hurl in the cab with that flu and all >:-)

Hugs, Stephanie. Very upsetting.

Maybe carry a really beat-up penny for next time he does it to leave as a tip.
Have you read my short story The Eve of Triumph?

That just stinks!  (I would go stronger, but Terms and all)

I might just report him to the "home office" with words like
Never use your service again
What are you going to do about it
I assume he will be reassigned to the south side where the LGBT community is not as prevalent
Uber, Lyft...

But I really like Suzi's passive aggressive - NO TIP.  That's what these guys live on.  No tips, they go hungry.

That's an appalling situation. Unfortunately it's also illustrative of the difficulty in transitioning in a local area where you are likely to be known by all and sundry. I'm presuming you called for a cab and he was the one they sent, or did you flag him down? If you're calling for a cab is it possible to ask for him not to be sent? If you flag him down is it possible to then tell him you'll catch the next cab? I'm just trying to think of ways you can avoid dealing with him. I suspect you're not a fan of confrontation otherwise I'd suggest you say to him that if he wants your money and service he'd better stop with the "sir" crap and start addressing you as "Ms Stephanie"!!

I always call for a cab. The nice thing that started to happen is that they are using my proper name when I call. I use to always use my old name because I've been using them a long time, but a few days ago I decided to use my real name and got a shock when the next time I called they had replaced my old name with my proper name. I've been using them for like 20 years so it would be easy to complain. This particular cab driver is from one of those cultures that has a different view of a woman's place so there is a lot of baggage there.I was just taken by surprise that I think he was doing it on purpose.Usually I only go a very short distance so it doesn't matter, it's just this time it was like a half hour ride. Last night I took a cab at ten in the evening and the cab driver called me properly and was very nice.
