WASHINGTON — With two milestone developments in the federal government's policy on gender issues, last week was heady for transgender people and advocates.

First, an impassioned Attorney General Loretta Lynch announced the government was suing North Carolina for discriminating against transgender people. Later, federal officials issued guidance to public schools on accommodating transgender students.

While recent federal "suggestions" seem like milestones, transgender rights have been slowly evolving, albeit not as quickly as some would like, but there is now quite a bit of case law supporting transgender people as this article points out. Same sex marriage didn't happen overnight and neither will trans rights, but given what it was like when we were kids, "We've come a long way baby!" And yes, there is still far to go.
