Texas Congressman Says US Should Not Make Gay Space Colonies

Every once in a while, the US House of Representatives allows lawmakers to make "general speeches" on the floor so that they can put remarks about their pet issues on the official Congressional record. . . .

The bizarre speech hit many notes—he started by calling trans people "perverse," then railed against gay marriage for a bit, before suggesting that, should humanity be faced with an Earth-ending event, we should definitely have a Noah's Ark-type spaceship that could perpetuate the human race but added that we should definitely not put gay people on this spaceship.

In a somewhat progressive move, Gohmert did acknowledge the existence of dinosaurs, which, I guess that's a win for science.

mmmmmmmm,  no comment I can possibly imagine does justice to this news.

Love is not obedience, conformity, or submission. It is a counterfeit love that is contingent upon authority, punishment, or reward. True love is respect and admiration, compassion and kindness, freely given by a healthy, unafraid human being....  - Dan Barker

Oh you know, why feed their insipid ideology?  His speech does serve as a testament to ignorance and the desire to discriminate even after the end of the earth.  Nothing like discrimination to bring people together in prayerful reverence ;)

It's really sad when stupid, crazy people are elected to representative government.
'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

Sounds like he has in mind a more techno version of the Rapture, where all the fun, cool kids get left behind.  Some of us wish the Rapture would hurry up and take all the religious nuts away -- it's a terrific idea, when you think about it.

From that point of view there shouldn't be men on it at all. An all women crew would be far more able to reproduce with a minimal stored 'donation' from men.

But... but... but... who would be in charge? ;)
April 22, 2015, the day of my first face to face pass in gender neutral clothes and no makeup. It may be months to the next one, but I'm good with that!

Being transgender is just a phase. It hardly ever starts before conception and always ends promptly at death.

Yikes... people actually voted for that imbecile.

The Democratic Party primary in my county had four people on it.  Two of them were Bernie and Hillary, and the other two were unopposed for the nomination.  I hear a lot of talk about shifting demographics or whatnot favoring the Democrats here, but (like the GOP's hopes for the White House) that doesn't help if they can't produce actual candidates.  Off the top of my head, the last Democrat to show a pulse while running for statewide office in Texas was Ann Richards, and even she got helped immeasurably by her opponent telling jokes about rape.  She lost to W over twenty years ago, and she's been dead for ten.  Democrats own the big cities and The Valley, but they're doomed in the suburbs and the rural areas, and they know it.  The state has been on the backwaters of the Democratic party's priority list for so long it's going to be a major effort to reclaim it.

When in doubt, ignore the moral judgments of anybody who engages in cannibalism.

I wonder how this guy stays in office. He is the joke of the capitol. Everyone knows it. If I lived in his district, I'd be tempted to move. What an embarrassment.

He represents extreme east central Texas along the border with Louisiana . A lot of history of back-woods ultraconservative-ism is in that district. My Texas long-lost sister tells me tales about that area. Something about the old tale about the Thespian and the Homo Sapiens that applies there even though that story came from Florida?

just for chips and grins...

Regardless of whether or not there are any glbtqia people on an Ark Ship, its still part of the genetic code and expanding as part of evolution. So it really wouldn't matter since we'd be back and more fabulous than ever with the first travellers generation.
