Well I came out to my GP this week. It was my intent I admit because I was looking to get the sacred referral to an Endo. But I had a little push. She's a new doctor to me and it was finally time for the annual physical. The MA did the usual intake stuff: weight, questions and then Blood Pressure. Now I was definitely in full anxiety mode as you can imagine. I had measured my BP at home and it was high 120's/91 - not bad and typical. At the office however, it measured out in the high 150's - very unusual for me ... unless you knew what was going on in my head.
So I get in the exam room and wait. And try to calm myself. And still try to calm myself. The doc walks in and proceeds to tell me her life story. Then we get to...so what's up with your blood pressure? I just told her: Well I know why it's high...because I'm Transgender and I'm here to ask for a referral for hormones... and I believe you as my GP should be on board medically. Ok, she said..her tone lowered and she asked some kind questions. She finished the exam and we discussed endocrinologists in our little geographic area (Cape Cod). She was somewhat familiar with TG patients and said the best place to go is where docs have extensive experience: Boston - the Fenway Clinic in fact.
So. I'm on my way to HRT soon!

I wanted to share this with anyone who has anxiety about approaching their doctor.
