I'm 5 feet 6 inches and my shoulder is 20 inches. What shall I do to make me look more feminine? Are there any surgeries that reduce the shoulder width?

Female swimmers also have wide shoulders.   My daughter is about 5'4" and has shoulders about that same width.

Ms Grace

Hi, welcome to the forum.

There's no operation to narrow the shoulders. Presumably a lot of the size you talk about could be due to muscle bulk? If that's the case you'll find that HRT will, over time reduce that. Some people also find changing diet and exercise can help slim the shoulders down.

Welcome to Susan's Place. I have wide shoulders as well and I never had muscle mass so there is little I can do to change them. The best way to deal with them is a lose fitting top with short or long sleeves. Stay way from tank top, thin straps or strapless as they will make your shoulders more visible. It also helps if your skirts and pants are not skin tight if you top doesn't cover your hips.

As a side note, for a while shoulder pads where the in thing in women's clothes. The first thing I did with a new blouse that had pads was to take the pads out. I had enough shoulders to maintain the look without help.

As has been said, female swimmers have wide shoulders, and nobody ever questions their gender.  I had a female swimmer friend in high school who has very popular, very nice, and very pretty.  She had very wide shoulders too!  And when she went to prom, she wore a dress that didn't cover her shoulders.  She was confident in how she looked.

On the plus side, you're pretty short!  I'm 5' 7", but wish I was shorter.  :)
