I finally got my updated Birth Certificate (California). I changed my name 10 years ago, but hadn't changed my BC because I wanted to change the gender at the same time. Unfortunately, surgery didn't happen as soon as I would've liked. I recently found out about California making it easier to change gender and so I gathered everything together that I needed. I ended up having to reorder the forms because I screwed up on them and they don't allow mistakes. I used some information I found on the forums here somewhere. I filled out the stuff, got a form notarized, had my doctor fill out a form and I sent my stuff in about a month ago. I just got it in the mail today! ;D

Congrats!  It's pretty sweet when you see that paper with your real name on it.

Haha thanks. It's even sweeter seeing my real name AND gender.

So true!  I wept with happiness when I got my SSN identity but jumped for joy when I got my birth certificate with both name and gender set properly.  Again congrats!

Congrats! Having the new bc in the hand brought a wave of emotion for me. I cried and just couldn't put it down.  Seeing my name and gender on the legal documental made my transition even more 'real', for lack of a better term.

Thank you so much. I just couldn't stop smiling. Now I only have a couple other legal forms to change and I'm all set when I go to do my passport. I'm waiting on the passport because I'll probably be changing my last name when I get married and if that happens within a year of getting the passport, I can get it updated for free.
