Hi Debra,
Congratulations on surviving FFS! So much of your story I can relate to. I flew home by myself nine days after surgery, and I barely made it. Lugging my little suitcase through Chicago O'Hare airport nearly did me in.
I am glad you are taking more time off from work. I hugely underestimated my recovery time. I took about two-and-a-half weeks off, and went back the third week. Big mistake. I was largely non-functional, and ended up taking half-days. By the fourth week, I was almost back to normal.
My forehead scar has been one of the slowest to heal. It is still a red line, and one of the worst offenders for spitting sutures, although I would have to say the sutures in my nose were worse, because they were *right there* under my septum and outside my nostrils, and looked and felt like big pimples.
One of the tough things I had to deal with during recovery is sleeping on my back. I have been a side-sleeper my whole life. I had to wear a compression garment on my head for the first month, and the pain in my ears from the face/neck lift made sleeping on my side impossible. I was taking Valium and Vicodin nearly every night for the first three weeks to get to sleep.
One thing I did not do was stop estradiol, at least as originally instructed. Dr. Zukowksi and I bargained about that. I stopped two days before surgery and started two days after. There is just no sound medical reason to stop sublingual or parenteral estradiol.
Now that I am largely "healed" I still have to deal with the weird electric sensations and shooting pains through my face, forehead, and neck as nerves recover and reconnect, so I certainly sympathize with you there.
The first three weeks after surgery I was not allowed to blow my nose. I had to go rooting around with hydrogen peroxide-soaked Q-tips to clear my nose. Perhaps you can relate to how satisfying it was to get big red globs of coagulated blood and snot out your nose, lol!
One downer for me: my nose was absolutely perfect until I took the tape off on day 12. Within a few days I noticed a new lump on my previously perfect nose!

I can only hope it subsides with time.
Anyway, congratulations to you again. You should post some pictures!
With kindness,
Terri
