Hi, I can't make sense of some things cause it seems like weird things happen to me. Certain websites don't ask me username or password more than once , they just seem to remember you forever? I have a desktop that remembers my Susans username and password  :D, I don't want it to

Can anyone educate me about this and other similar issues I have  through PM? Thank you.

Susan's will remember you as long as you don't log out or time out. My home system is never logged out but I set a time on my laptop so should somebody steal it and get though the first password, they shouldn't be able to get through the second. I normally pick a time period a bit longer than I will be on, for example I select about 4 hours if I will use it no longer than 3 hours.

Thank you, if I log in and set 3 hours and I close the browser (not logout) will I be shown as online here? Thank you again.

I think when you close the browser you will not show on Susan's as the site depends on a keep alive exchange which is a part of the internet protocol. If you leave everything up, you drift off the bottom for about 30 minutes and then I think the connection is broken. While my computer is up 24 hours a day, I cycle it from time to time and I can get back it without the need to log in so the site remembers a cookie and the fact you are still connected. If Susan cycles the server for some reason, you will need to log back in.

Thank you so much dena. That made me feel better. Now I understand. I must have set it to forever or something last time, now I'll keep them shorter.

Also, would love to have a friend here who help me with things like this, anyone is welcome to pm me.

I can be PMed by anybody who needs help. I handle a fair number of problems in PM because some of the issues tend to clutter up the forum. Sometimes I might be a little slow responding because I get tied up with other things but I try to keep up with requests for assistance.

If your using Windows on a computer try CCleaner from Piriform. It will remove all traces of your Internet browsing. Not just this site but all of them. Its useful if you don't want others to know what sites you've been visiting.

Thank you,that seems helpful.

I should add that CCleaner is free. They try to confuse you into buying it, but there's a free download.

It will also remove your logins from other sites. If you want to stop it doing that you need to change some options to keep cookies from those sites.

You may have already been helped enough but it would help to delete the history and that gives you the option to delete saved passwords. I just thought I'd run that by you for future reference. Hope it helps.

Thanks, I discovered that recently. It seems Firefox is much easier for me.  :)

Just a little rant, but does anyone feel like the Internet keeps getting more difficult to use? Why are there so many misleading, fake download buttons that download something else?  :)

I've been feeling pretty down on the internet as a whole myself.

It feels like most of the internet is a wasteland now. Sites are full of malware. Even fairly benign sites that someone may visit frequently can have some kind of advertisement try to load malware onto your computer. Learning the basics about how to secure your system will stop most problems, but it's still irritating after awhile. Awhile back I was trying to find information about certain dolls...almost every site I went to gave me virus warnings. I eventually just gave up.

I find myself visiting new websites less and less often because even sites that aren't full of malware are either a cluttered mess or are very outdated. The majority of the internet is now just the empty remains of old websites that have been left to rot instead of simply deleted. Whenever I try to do a google search to find information all I get is a list of outdated nonsense that doesn't do me any good. If a website contains information that is time sensitive, people need to either keep it updated or remove it when it expires.

Is it true that Linux is much safer? I've been thinking about learning how to use it.

These toolbar things that show up on browsers after installing something, so annoying.
