Patience...yes I need plenty more of that... I have had a couple of people be honest with me and both these people had a far better opinion than I did. But I think we tend to be out own worst critics...I see so many women putting themselves down(me included) when there really is no need...honesty for me is better and I agree, you can't tell much from PIC such as my Avatar Pic. I need some proper full length shots taken before anyone could really tell me if I could or couldn't pass and again as you pointed out this is subjective...I guess male fail is considered a very good sign that you or can pass? If you feel comfortable about posting pics I would love to see some.

Liz

I totally agree, we tend to be our own worst critics (I personally can't stand looking at the mirror sometimes) and tend to see ourselves in a harsher light than others might. When you feel ready to post full length shots, I would love to see them.  And honestly, pictures rarely tell the whole picture anyway.  I've seen some really drab looking cis female friends look like super models on their facebook photos just because of lighting, angles, make-up, etc.  I've also seen some friends who are gorgeous in person but in their photos, they look so awful, it's shocking.  Anyway, I think that with time on hrt, you would be surprised as I was.  Although I don't think I'm passable or anything, I do feel so much better about myself even if I never plan on socially transitioning.

This is pic of me 12 years ago, in my early 20's. (sorry, it's a bit small since it was a photo a friend texted me.) I'm the one in the middle without my face blacked out

Again, I think this thread should be for fun and entertainment with some advice and encouragement.
It is misleading to believe that you can evaluate whether one can pass based on a few snapshots.
Therefore, I think assertive statements need to be avoided here.

Most cis-women at my age here do not take care of their beauty. Even I wear better than most of the college girl students I teach. Both men and women mostly praises my fashion sense and women like to give me advice on fashion and makeup.

Anyway, a kind of self video clip taken last year. Better than photos? I am not quite sure.
You also can see how college students at my university wear. The video clip is boring, as I am not any kind of video producer.

Cheers!

By the way, just wanted to say that I love your style, look, and wished that I had legs like yours that seem to go on forever!

So, as the person whose post kicked off the discussion...(oops)...

I don't mind helpful criticism.  I'm not looking for, wow, you look great you go girl.  We have a thread for that. But I'm also not looking for No you don't pass too bad so sad.  The criticism put forth in this thread is...harsh.  Constructive criticism is better, like, your nose is big but you can offset it by doing this.  Or your hairstyle isn't working, try this.  In my case, more hormones, lose weight, maybe contouring, I don't know.  But at least leave some hope - your features are masculine but you can make them more feminine by...whatever...and then you'll at least look like a masculine woman instead of a man in a dress.

Just my thoughts.  I'm back on the hormones, because as we all know, it's impossible to stop when it's what you really want.  So tell me what I can do to pass better, not that I don't, because in the end that's where I'm headed.

Well, even though people are questioning this thread, I think you deserve a response to your post. As I posted before, in pic #2 you pass, you like nice. In the "bad angle" pic you posted  --- BTW you get 10 brave points for doing that --- :) you look different. Based on pic #3, my suggestion would be longer hair with much more volume. Try it, see what it looks like! Since you have been on HRT such a short time, be patient. Best wishes sweetie. :)
I love dresses!!

You doesn't pass because of your masculine facial features. Males do often have bigger noses than females in addition to more brow bridge and sharper edges in the face. Shoulders and height might also affect the passing. You do also have very intense makeup around your eyes including a special stare that also do passing harder. It seems like you're hiding something. Showing your teeth when you're smiling and smiling because of you're happy instead of staging it may make you appear more feminine instead. Try to relax and act natural, then people wouldn't read you as a person who tries to hide something or staging something. FFS may be the solution in order to pass as a cis woman. Without it, it would be nearly impossible to pass 110%. People do probably read you as non-cis.

Nobody has ever told me I have a "special stare" before! Thanks for the feedback, I had an FFS consultation yesterday and the surgeon did mention my brow, hairline and jaw as areas we could improve (I totally agree). He did however say he loved my nose and smile which is a nice thing to hear!

I also totally agree that half of 'passing' is confidence and I'm getting much better in that regard.

15 months on hrt still living and presenting male with no plans on socially transitioning.
http://imgur.com/54YVF8e

I just wanted to show you how masculine my initial starting point was and how much hrt has softened some of those features, as subtle as they may be.  I still have many issues regarding physical traits and plan on getting ffs next year.  So, you know.  We all have our personal hang ups.  I just hope that you don't see you at the moment, but you in a year, 5 years, 10 years, etc.

Also, I don't want to mention any names but I remember seeing a trans woman here that definitely did not look like she passed in her avatar photo but when I watched her youtube channel, I was shocked!  She was talking about how many years shes been on hrt (no surgery what so ever) and some of the changes shes noticed physically.  She was standing in the middle of her room just wearing a tank top, shorts, minimal make up, and explaining some of the things she's noticed.  Wow, she passed 110%

Wow, thank you Lilliana!  I'm sure after a year or so on HRT, you will be told the same thing!

And I do have to admit, I don't consider my former self to be handsome and I whenever I look at my reflection, I just see a guy.  So, thank you so much for those kind words, you really made my day!

So with all this talk about passing/not passing, HRT and FFS I thought I'd post a handful of random pics from the last 2 weeks or so.  I'm 42yo and will be 7mths HRT on the 31st.

I don't pass except maybe at a distance. I'll probably end up looking into FFS after 1yr+ on hormones.  I have been fairly lucky body wise, I have hips, and I'm tall but not terribly so (5'9-3/4'' last time I measured).

I have started getting Maam'd a bit more in last month or so, which makes me extremely happy regardless.

I will starting presenting full-time at work on Nov 8th.. have a ton of shopping to do for winter clothes over the next week eeeep!

Tips and constructive criticism are welcome and expected!

Fara,

I'm at a very similar stage - 7.5mths HRT - and have made very similar experiences lately. You are very hard on yourself and besides your facial hair in some of the pictures you totally pass as female IMO. I would not rush into ffs since you have a very cute feminine face. You will see your male self in the mirror much longer than strangers because you are so used to it.

I totally love the picture with your (???) Baby and I'm certain if somebody sees you like that they would never guess that you're not the mum of that cute baby.

Hugs
Jessica

The brow bridge and nose do passing harder. But I think it's a very smart decision that you wants to wait some years before undergoing FFS. So the HRT can work properly first. :) If I stand close enough, you wouldn't pass as cis. But I thinks people do understand that you presents yourself as female.

In most of your pics, you look androgynous.  The middle one in the second row is all femme, though.

- Rachel -

I dislike the term and concept of 'passing' and prefer 'to be read as female'. So, that said, I'm feeling very dysphoric and old at 65 today, so I put on a touch of makeup and took this pic. Would you read me as a woman?

I would indeed Rachel... And you are looking beautiful today!!! We share the same attitude about "passing" .... To be seen as female is all that is truly needed....

Onward we go!!!

Let go of the things that no longer serve you... Let go of the pretense of the false persona, it is not you... Let go of the armor that you have worn for a lifetime, to serve the expectations of others and, to protect the woman inside... She needs protection no longer....
