I'm sure makeup would help but wonder if the possibility of passing is there?

You have improved a lot since last time you posted a picture. :)

Yes.  That hair is fantastic, and your face isn't strongly masculine or anything.  I assume you don't have facial hair issues -- in person they aren't easily masked by makeup.

Given your frame you will absolutely need a good voice, but on first glance you should be able to be gendered female.

Sophie, Thanks for the encouragement and advice. I am in the early stages of electrolysis but luckily my facial hair is light and does not grow quickly. Can't get rid of it soon enough. Also I am working on my voice but have not progressed as fast as I would like. Still a work in progress. Everything seems to be going way to slowly but at least I am headed forward.

Love the curly hair. :) My hair is naturally curly so I always respond well to that look. Best wishes!
I love dresses!!

Just returned from San Diego with a few perplexing moments.

I hate to visit the U.S. again. As possible, I will not go there again!

It all happned in LAX (LA international airport). The young security woman ransacked me: whole of my body including the groin and even the genital. This was far severer than when I was in Dulles airport a few months ago. Although she asked me whether I prefer getting it in a private room, but I refused it.

Another perplexing moment was when I sat on the bench in the airport. A young man next to me asked me a favor. He said that his wife went to the public restroom about 20 min ago, but still did not come back. He asked me to enter the restroom and check whether she is fine. What can I do? Entering there and shouting her name in the front of each room (with my low voice)? Fortunately another aged woman next to me said she can do it, asking the name of his wife, but his wife just came back.

Before going to the airport, I had dinner with my eldest son, who lives in LA, at a restaurant in the downtown of Santa Monica (the 2nd photo). The place was more like cities of my country, South Korea: bold fashion, drunken men, crowded and noisy. Many women were wearing high heels and fishnet.

In a walmart store of San Diego, an aged man behind me asked me "how tall are you?" I just did not reply as if I do not speak English. And in a public restroom of Sea World, another aged woman suddenly blocked my way out, commenting that I am so much tall. But I saw a lot of other tall women there. Yes. People seem to be more talkative than in the eastern coast of the U.S.

My colleagues let me know that San Francisco airport is as bad as LAX, and I will avoid stopping at any airport of the western coast of the U.S. Without ransacking in the airport, travel to the U.S. would be far more enjoyable.

Anyway, can I pass?

OT, but...  Barbie, you were wise to avoid the 'private room' search offer.  The TSA folks at the airports I use seem to like holding us in those until just after our flight has left.  A search in public, where there are witnesses is much safer, even if humiliating.

Humiliation is all just part of the US Real Life Experience for us.

My personal transition path included medical changes.  The path others take may require no medical intervention, or different care.  We each find our own path. I provide these dates for the curious.

Barbie - you could check if you are eligible for a program called Global Entry. It primarily allows you to bypass customs and immigration but also comes with TSA Precheck. They have separate security lines which have a lower security standard since you have been pre-approved. You only have to pass a metal detector. Depending on your passport country you can get this even as foreigner (I have it too and I am a few years away from citizenship). Only catch is that not every airline participates.
Sorry to hear about your bad experience - I would have thought LA and San Francisco are a bit more progressive.

Barbie, I think you pass very well. I am sorry you had such a rough experience from the TSA. BTW the fact that the man sitting next to you asked you to check on his wife is a good sign that you are passing well.

Thanks, Michelle and Dori.

Yes. I understand the high security level of airports in the US, as a trauma of 911. Here in my country, the security staffs in the airport also sometimes randomly ransack passengers. However, the difference is that the staffs here are very polite, asking some understanding, but the staff in LAX was high-handed. She looked threatening. I know that they have to ransack hundreds passengers every day, and I may understand their hard work and difficulty.

Yes. I guessed that searching in public would be far better.

Yes. I use Global Entry when I enter the U.S., too. But it happened when I departed to my country, which Global Entry does not apply. Also, I posses an official passport, which sometimes exempt me from harsh checking processes in some countries. But both were useless, as I was in departure and the TSA randomly choose passengers for harsh ransacking.

I guess why he chose me was that his wife was an East Asian woman. At least, I was lucky as a male staff did not ransack me (male staffs ransack men, and vice versa). At Dulles airport, a female staff also ransacked me, although she already saw my passport and the male sign. She first called me as 'Sir', but immediately corrected to 'Ma'am'. I guessed she was well trained and educated.

Nowadays, airports become harsher places for transgender people around the world. And, we need to prepare for it. At least, the worst moment did not occurred, and I still think I was lucky.

Thanks again for all kind replies!

Cheers!

Hey y'all. Just here for an update noone asked for! To think time flies so fast. I think I posted a picture of myself in here about 6 or 7 months ago and just felt like I wanted to give a small update. My before picture isn't the best representation of what I looked like pre-HRT but it's the only one I could find. I don't pass 100% yet, but it feels like I'm getting there slowly but surely. So for all you people who think you look too manly to transition, it's worth a try!

Maxineeh, you look beautiful! You have the same feminine looks as a couple of girls I know. You go girl, looking good. :)

It's been a long time for me. I dressed up today and took a few photos. This is probably the best of the lot (excuse the mess!

Pre everything, with a bit of lipstick and some bronze tint. Could I pass?

I have a pacemaker and get the private screening all the time. I fly 20 or so times a year and it is always the same. Can't use the scanner so they take me apart right there. Have not been since I have grown noticeable boobs. But I realize they are doing it for my safety no matter how ineffective and useless the process is. It's unfortunate we have to have such precautions but that is what happens when your Pres ignores 77 warnings prior to 9/11 but was too busy on vacation to acknowledge. This is the Bandaid neglect and fear produced.

I don't think that I can pass as female, but maybe once I've been on hrt for a little while and I lose a but of my muscle mass and get some curves my fairly androgenous current appearance will aid with my passing. Lucky for me I've never been very hairy and I only have light shadow on my face to contend with. I have noticed that since I started taking care of my skin with my wifes products it's been much better to get closer shaves. I would love to be able to dress up and spend the day out and about with my wife! On day :icon_lips: :icon_lips:

You doesn't pass yet. If you wants to look cisgender, FFS is a solution. But getting a new hairstyle might also help the passing ability in addition to HRT. Perhaps you should try a hairstyle with lesser stiffness in it, so it looks a bit natural and relaxed.
