When Sarah McBride takes the stage in Philadelphia on Thursday night, she will have just three minutes to make her speech. But she will only need to say a word to make history.

I am excited to hear Sarah.  She only gets three minutes but still...  And another note, onstage all four nights in that jury box looking thing to the left is Professor Marisa Richmond as the official timekeeper of the convention.

The video is up on YouTube now. There is a wonderful moment at 5:51 (she's introduced at about 5:10) where she says, "My name is Sarah McBride and I am a proud transgender American" - and the crowd responds with a loud, sustained, happy cheer. Far more people cheering for her than some of the politicians who spoke earlier in the evening.

Update: According to thenewcivilrightsmovement (.com, has another vid with a different camera angle) the cheer was different because they were giving her a standing ovation.

Miss Dee took me to a movie and dinner today for my birthday and since I didn't know when Sarah was speaking, I set the DVR to record C-Span.  When we got home, I ran it forward and listened to the speeches by Chad Griffin, Sean Patrick Maloney and Sarah McBride.  Could there be a greater birthday present than seeing the first out transgender person ever to address a major political conference.  I cried, too.
